Over the course of 22 minutes on Thursday night, the Beavers went from a scoreless Class 1A Evergreen League match against the Grizzlies into a blowout with six goals on their way to a 7-0 victory at home.

Since losing to Montesano 4-0, Tenino (7-2-2, 2-1 Evergreen) has responded with back-to-back cruisers. Maria Summers got the goal party started in the ninth minute and she dished off a pass to Callie Mickelson four minutes later.

“To lose that game and still come back with energy, it is amazing,” Summers stated. “You can trust they’re going to be there at the right time and in the right spot.”

Mickelson added another in the 31st minute, Kyla Watson tallied two goals and eighth grader Sophie Espino tapped in her third goal of the year off a Watson corner kick that led toa scrum in front of the net. Tenino outshot Hoquaim 16-2.

“Warms my heart Sophie gets on the stat sheet,” co-head coach David Montgomery said. “Somehow the smallest person on the field finds the ball.”

The other side of the Beavers leadership Trevor Fetbrandt was quite pleased with the play of defensive center-mids Charley Jones and Mikeala Cutlip, stating they “did a great job breaking up any counter-attack. They are taking the role and running with it.”

Kyra Dierks capped the scoring in the 45th minute for the Beavers, who face Rochester on the road next week.

“We feel this league is there for the taking,” Fetbrandt stated. “The girls are firing on all cylinders.”
