Tenino picks up first lopsided victory in two years

The current core group of Beavers have had several nail-biting wins, but Monday’s 61-30 shellacking over Stevenson at Brock Court marked the first time they have won a game by more than 20 points under head coach Kirsi Gofinch.

Now at 3-7 before the new year, Tenino is two wins away from matching last season’s win total. It used a pestering defense that created easy offense, igniting its way to a 10-point lead after one and 20 at the half.

The Beavers came away with 13 steals, four by Kyla Watson. Charley Jones and Kylie Gonia scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, while five players grabbed at least five rebounds, led by Georgia Gore’s nine. All 10 girls got court time and three made their first varsity buckets.

“It was great to see us put more points on the board and focus on stuff we need to focus on,” Gofinch said.

Tenino will face Mossyrock on Monday night at home in its final non-league game of the season.
