After a tight loss to Montesano on Tuesday, Tenino was in another fight Thursday afternoon in another league game against Elma. Looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss, the Beavers played to a scoreless draw in regulation and extra time, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
For the second straight game, the Beavers fell this week, losing in the penalty shootout 4-2 and dropping to 0-2 in league play.
“From beginning to end we didn’t look like ourselves,” Beavers coach Kevin Schultz said. “We never played the soccer we’re known for. That’s on us as coaches, we weren’t prepared enough.”
The game saw no shots on goal for either team in the first half, and after some adjustments, the Beavers put four balls on target in the second half, but none connected. Tenino’s defense kept Elma from getting a shot on target for the duration of the game.
“We weren’t first to any balls tonight,” Schultz said. “We need to focus on trying to be who we normally are and be more aggressive. We have to figure it out.”
There is plenty of season left for the Beavers, who host Seton Catholic next Tuesday with a 6-2 overall record and an 0-2 league record.
