Following the success of the inaugural Tenino Railroad Day celebration last year, the event to the Tenino Depot Museum Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“The Northern Pacific Railroad drove in the final spike in the sleepy Scatter Creek Valley in October of 1872 and named the depot ‘Tenino,’ from there, a town was born,” a Facebook post stated.
Last year’s celebration was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the restored 1923 Great Northern Railway caboose, which is now displayed in front of the Tenino Depot Museum along West Park Avenue.
This year, attendees will once again get to tour the caboose and the museum while enjoying food from vendors including Bigfoot BBQ. There will be music by the Prairie Fire Band, the Tenino Band and Irish fiddler Abbey Ryle.
There will also be a barrel car ride for children and more activities.
