Tenino defense shines in shutout over Rainier

The Beavers came away with six fumble recoveries, seven total turnovers and two defensive touchdowns in a convincing 40-0 shutout over the Mountaineers at home on Friday night.

After last year’s fireworks of ejections, the only booming was Tenino’s tacklers. Kamron Burrow had a scoop-and-score while Leland White batted a ball at the line of scrimmage to himself and took it the distance.

“Kid is a freak,” Beavers head coach Darren Tinnerstet said of White. “One of the best defensive performances I’ve seen in 17 years (as a coach).”

Tenino led 20-0 at the half and doubled the margin with 20 more points in the third. Rainier (0-1) struggled from the jump and never got going. Michael Lanning scored a pair of rushing touchdowns while Miguel Espinoza and Hunter Rodgers found the end zone once each for Tenino.

The Beavers will travel to Kalama next week while Rainier welcomes Raymond/South Bend for its home opener.

“Overall pleased,” Tinnerstet stated. “We’ll get better.”
