Ten of the 19 Centralia High School powerlifting team members who competed in the Olympia Powerlifting Open on Saturday, March 1, earned podium finishes.
“These 19 students faced off against 230 other athletes, and they delivered — each and every one of them!” said girls powerlifting coach Rose Waterfield.
Five members of the team previously competed at the Wolverine Classic Powerlifting Meet in Olympia in early February, where several girls took home first- and second-place wins.
The team doubled its number of competing athletes between the Wolverine Classic and the Olympia Powerlifting Open, and the team continues to grow, Waterfield said.
“It was clear that every single athlete came ready to give it their all,” he said.

Additional lifters who participated were Kaeleigh Swarthout, Yoselin Avila Jimenez, Carson Johnson, Isaac Wallace, Colton Crow, Payton Warren, Sawyer Sexsmith, Alex Wilson and Tristin Henning.
“We couldn’t be prouder of this group and the incredible growth they’ve shown,” Waterfield said.
