A driver suspected to be in his late teens suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” Monday after a collision with a power pole in the north end of Centralia.

The crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of North Pearl Street. Fire crews responded to find a vehicle in the front yard of a residence with significant damage to its right side, according to a news release from the Riverside Fire Authority.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle with hydraulic tools. RFA personnel transported the sole occupant, only identified as a “victim in his late teens” to a waiting Airlift NW helicopter. Helicopter crews boarded the ambulance and rode with the victim to Providence Centralia Hospital where for further treatment, according to the RFA.

Centralia Police officer Angie Humphrey said the vehicle, a Ford Mustang, likely lost control due to speed and wet roads.

“He sheared a power pole and it appeared he possibly rolled,” she said.

The power pole was hanging by its wires when responders arrived, she said.

Humphrey confirmed the driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.

The crash caused a power outage in the north end of Centralia. The Chronicle will update this story when more information is available.
