A 17-year-old girl was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Castle Rock early Saturday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle, Melissa C. Gonzalez, 45, of Chula Vista, California, is facing potential charges of DUI and vehicular homicide, the state patrol stated in a news release.

The identity of the teen was not released.

Gonzalez was traveling northbound in a 2025 Nissan Versa at mile marker 49 when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in a ditch at about 6:20 a.m. May 2.

The teen died at the scene. Gonzalez was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The state patrol reports drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
