Portland police said Friday they have arrested a teen in the fatal shooting last October of Andrew “Andy” Nguyen.
Police did not name the suspect in a news release but said the 17-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
Nguyen, 22, died by gunshot wound in an Oct. 25 shooting in Portland’s Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, marking the 38th Portland homicide of 2025.
Police had responded to reports of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. near Southeast 142nd Avenue and Division Street, where they found Nguyen, who then died at the hospital, authorities said.
The afternoon of Nov. 1, East Precinct officers responded to a reported hit-and-run near Southeast 117th Avenue and Ash Street. Police learned four people had fled what turned out to be a stolen car, according to a news release. They set up a perimeter and found the four people, along with several firearms.
Upon further investigation by patrol officers, the homicide unit and other police teams, they linked one of the suspects from the reported hit-and-run to the alleged Nguyen homicide, police said Friday.
The bureau did not immediately respond to questions about when police connected the suspect to the homicide and when charges were filed.
The 17-year-old suspect was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center in northeast Portland, police said in the news release. Nguyen’s family was told of the charges.
