A 13-year-old boy was arrested in Pierce County early Saturday, suspected of making plans for a school shooting and acquiring weapons to carry it out.

The Pierce County sheriff's office said in a news release that deputies received a report on Friday that a teenager was making threats to kill and stating that he had access to firearms. Deputy Carly Cappetto said in an email that the teen's threats were directed at a school.

The sheriff's office and SWAT arrested the teen at his home around 1 a.m. Saturday in the Parkland area. They found a large quantity of firearms," as well as clothing and loaded magazines with "school shooter writings," the news release said. Police also confiscated "writings that would support a typical mass shooting scenario.

The teen was last enrolled in the Franklin Pierce School District in 2021, but has not been an active student in any district since then, the sheriff's office reported.

He was booked into Remann Hall youth detention center with no further incident.
