The Morton-White Pass girls basketball lost its first game of the winter Wednesday, 69-59 to 1A Eatonville in Morton.
“We had some good shots that just weren’t falling,” first-year MWP coach Tim Roberts said. “Eatonville did a good job dictating the pace.”
McKenzee Mays had 15 points to lead the Timberwolves (0-1), with fellow senior Natalia Armstrong right behind her on 13. Sophomore Malia Armstrong added nine, and freshman Ryelin Wiedenmann scored seven and brought down 12 rebounds, sharing the team lead on the glass with Kiera Miller.
“The girls did a really good job of seeing their teammates, [laying team ball and doing what we needed to do,” Roberts said. “This was a good starter for them.”
Eatonville jumped out to an 18-8 lead after a quarter. At one point, the Cruisers got the gap out to 18 points, but the T-Wolves whittled it down to as few as five at one point in the fourth quarter.
MWP will get nearly a week off before playing the Cruisers again — this time in Eatonville — next Tuesday.
