T-Birds Take Third Matchup With Bearcats

Jumping on W.F. West early, the Tumwater softball team got some revenge after dropping each of its first two matchups with the Bearcats earlier this season, winning a Monday matchup at home, 8-3.

After getting held to two runs last Friday in a loss, the Thunderbirds scored two alone in the first, added three in the second, and scored a run a piece in the third, fourth, and fifth for some balanced scoring.

Jaime Haase went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored on a home run blast and a double to lead the T-Bird attack at the plate, and Zoe Fields added a 2-RBI double, with Megan Paull also hitting a 2-RBI double with two more walks drawn.

All the while Ella Ferguson kept the W.F. West bats quiet until a late rally in the seventh, going the distance with three runs allowed (one unearned) on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

The Bearcats, meanwhile, went away from their previous starter in wins against the T-Birds earlier this season and tossed Staysha Fluetsch in the circle for the first 2 2/3 innings. Fluetsch allowed six runs, with five earned, on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts. She was relieved by Monroe Dalrymple, who pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, with two runs, both unearned, on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Kallee Corey mashed a home run for the Bearcats in the seventh, and Lena Fragner went 2 for 4 with an RBI on a double to lead W.F. West at the plate.

The Bearcats return to Rec Park on Wednesday against Centralia at 6 p.m., while the Thunderbirds look to keep it rolling against Black Hills on the road Tuesday.
