The Tumwater volleyball team came to Ron Brown Court and left with a win Tuesday, taking down Centralia 25-19, 25-20, 25-13 in both team’s league openers.

Natalie Montoya posted 10 kills on .444 hitting to lead the Thunderbirds (3-1, 1-0 2A EvCo), while Tove Hugus put down seven kills and hit an even .400.

“They were not only playing aggressive, but smart as well,” Tumwater coach Molly Cichosz said.

Tumwater logged 12 aces as a team, led by three each from Brooklynn Hayes and Paige Henderson. But even when the T-Birds weren’t scoring directly off of serves, they were keeping the Tigers (2-1, 0-1 2A EvCo) off-balance and out of system with them. In the first set, one service run turned a 14-14 tie into a 22-14 lead for the guests.

Emily Robello dished out 29 assists, and Lalie Betschart had six digs for Tumwater.

Lauren Wasson led Centralia with a 10-kill, 10-dig double-double, while Mckenna Smith had 12 digs and Selah Calkins was perfect from the service line.

Tumwater will host Black Hills in a Pioneer Bowl battle Thursday, while Centralia will play at Rochester.
