The Tumwater volleyball team is one win away from returning to the state tournament, as the T-Birds swept Washougal 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 on Thursday in Woodland.
After the starting setter went down with an injury just five points into the game, Maille Marty stepped in and played phenomenally, tallying 30 assists to help the offense not miss a beat.
Tove Hugus led the T-Birds with 12 kills, while Lalie Betschart and McKayla Clary led the defensive effort with 19 and 17 digs, respectively.
Paige Henderson added eight kills and three blocks, and Chloe Henderson finished with six kills and three aces.
The T-Birds (15-2) need to win just one of their next two games to make it to state. The rest of the 2A District 4 Tournament will take place on Saturday at Woodland, including Tumwater’s semifinal against Ridgefield.
