T-Birds roll to win over Warriors

The Tumwater girls basketball team didn’t let Rochester crack double digits until the third quarter, and rolled to a 54-21 win in 2A EvCo play Friday.

Regan Brewer had 17 points to lead the Thunderbirds (3-0, 2-0 2A EvCo), while Rhylee Beebe came in behind her at 14, Kendall Gjurasic added nine and Sydney Sumrok had 7.

Mandy Andree-Cordell led the Warriors (3-2, 0-2 2A EvCo) with eight points, but only she and Delany Winter — who had four — hit more than one field goal in a rough shooting night for the guests.

“We wanted to get a quick start and set the tempo, but it’ hard to do that or build any kind of momentum when you go 7 for 43 from the field,” Rochester coach Keeli Rivas said.

Rochester managed just six points in the opening half, with just one made field goal and four free throws.

The Warriors — who opened league play with a two-game gauntlet against W.F. West and Tumwater — will start next week at home against Centralia on Tuesday. Tumwater will head to Aberdeen on Tuesday.
