T-Birds Jump Out to Early Lead in Win Over Bearcats

Getting out to an early lead with two runs in the first, the Tumwater baseball team carried that momentum into another win over W.F. West Friday afternoon, 8-3. 

The Thunderbirds got another good start out of their starting pitcher, with Brayden Oram tossing four innings and allowing just one run on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Liam Karlson finished the game, allowing two runs on four hits with four more strikeouts. 

At the plate, the top of the T-Bird order had a strong day, with Derek Thompson hitting 2 for 4 with two RBIs on a pair of doubles, Alex Overbay going 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a walk, and Oram going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. 

On the other side, the Bearcats found a bit of offense late, as Deacon Meller scored a run on a 2 for 4 day, and Weston Potter knocked in a pair of runs going 1 for 2 with two walks, and a run scored. 

The Bearcats pitched four guys, with Connor Coleman getting through an inning and allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. Riggs Westlund pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing two more runs on two hits and three walks with two punchouts, Waylen Land went an inning and two thirds giving up two runs on a hit and two walks with a strikeout, and Potter pitching the final inning. Potter gave up two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Tumwater will take the field next on the road against Black Hills on Monday while the Bearcats play Centralia at Wheeler Field in a couple of rivalry matchups.
