The Tumwater girls basketball team flipped the script real quick Wednesday on the road, and held on after a massive second quarter to beat Rochester 50-41 in 2A EvCo action.
The Thunderbirds (9-6, 6-2 2A EvCo), who had been held under 37 points in three straight games, managed just three in the entire first quarter Wednesday evening. Then, they canned seven 3-pointers in the second — three from Sydney Sumrok, two from Rhylee Beebe and two from Caydence Lee — rolling on a 24-8 run to go into halftime up by 10.
Rochester closed the gap down to five points by the end of the third, but Tumwater withstood the charge, going 8 of 12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Beebe finished with 20 points to lead all scorers, while Sumrok had 13.
Grace Hoover paced the Warriors (8-7, 3-5 2A EvCo) with 14 points.
Tumwater will host Aberdeen on Friday; Rochester will face Centralia.
