In what could be a Class 2A District 4 championship preview, the Tumwater High School baseball team couldn’t overcome leaving nine runners on base in falling to Columbia River 5-1 on Saturday at Heritage High School.

As part of the Baseballism Classic, the Stan Spencer bracket championship featured a scoreless contest until the Rapids put up two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to give them the cushion to prevail.

Tumwater (1-2) had a chance to breakthrough in the bottom of the fourth after loading the bases with one out, but its last two batters were sent back to the dugout with backwards K’s. The T-Birds left the tying run standing on the on deck circle twice in the seventh.

Luke Overbay and Kade Acker reach recorded a double while Henry Arthur registered two hits. Tumwater, who will open EvCo play on Wednesday at home versus Centralia, had three pitchers combine for nine strikeouts.
