T-Birds Blow Late Lead in Lacey

The Tumwater baseball team swung momentum hard in their direction late, but left an inning for things to swing back, and swing back they did as Timberline scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off 7-6 winners in a non-league game Thursday.

The T-Birds went into the sixth trailing 2-1 in a low-scoring affair, before Alex Overbay tied it up with his second home run of the season. With two outs in a suddenly-tied ballgame, Tumwater rallied on a walk, an error, and a single, before Liam Karlson doubled in a pair of runs and Eddie Marson singled him home to make it 6-2.

That put the game in the hands of the Tumwater bullpen, but coming in to finish things off, Landon Roy ran into immediate trouble. An error and a walk put runners on, a double scored one, and a three-run homer tied it up at 6-6.

After another walk, the T-Birds went back to the pen to bring in Ayden Ramsey, but yet another walk moved the winning run into scoring position, and after a groundout and an intentional walk to load the bases, the Blazers brought it in on a walk-off single.

Overbay threw two strong innings to start for the T-Birds, giving up just a walk and striking out three in two scoreless frames. Derek Thompson gave up two runs in three innings of relief, before Graysen Revel tossed a scoreless sixth, and was in line for the win before everything went wrong in the seventh.

Reveal and Briar Finney both added doubles for Tumwater at the plate.

The Thunderbirds will get back into 2A EvCo play next Tuesday, at home against Shelton.
