A unified brand was announced between Providence and Swedish Health Services on Thursday. The move comes on the 10-year anniversary of the two medical providers affiliating.

Together, the two health care providers form the most extensive health system in Western Washington. The combined system consists of 22,000 caregivers, 2,200 providers, eight hospitals and 244 clinics.

R. Guy Hudson, who serves as CEO of Swedish Health Services and president of strategy and operations for Puget Sound, Providence, stated in a news release, “We came together 10 years ago because we knew we could make a bigger difference together than we could on our own. The concept of ‘better together’ has proven true many times over the decade, especially through the pandemic … Our unified brand will help us further improve access and ease the way of those we serve by clearly identifying which providers and locations are part of our family of organizations.”

The new affiliated branding will apply to hospitals and clinics throughout Western Washington including in Lewis and King Counties. However, the two entities will continue to act as separate employers and their operators will remain separate for tax purposes.

The two health care systems will respect each other’s respective values, according to the news release. Providence will continue as a religious organization and will continue to provide care in accordance with its moral values. Swedish will remain a secular entity and will continue to offer services not available at Providence.
