A suspected drunk driver hit a trooper’s patrol car while he was blocking traffic on Interstate 82 near the Oregon border Wednesday,

Trooper Matthew Parham, 38, of Kennewick, was blocking the left lane of southbound traffic about 7:15 p.m. after an SUV rolled on I-82 two hours earlier, the Washington State Patrol said in a release. Parham had his emergency lights on.

Shayla J. Mackley, 30, of Hermiston, was believed to be drunk as she also headed south on the interstate toward Oregon in a GMC Terrain, Trooper Carlos Mata told the Tri-City Herald.

Mackley spotted the trooper too late and crashed into the back of his patrol car, Mata said.

Parham was treated at Lourdes Medical Center before being released.

Investigators suspect she was drunk and she was taken to a hospital to have her blood drawn.

Mackley was not hurt in the crash and she was booked into the Benton County jail on one count of DUI.
