Police have identified and arrested a man suspected of attacking and seriously injuring an 82-year-old woman along the Fanno Creek Trail in Tigard, Oregon.
Marcellus Ford, 18, of Tigard, was booked into Washington County Jail on one count of second-degree assault, Tigard police said in a statement.
Police obtained an image of the suspect, a young man, from surveillance footage and asked the public to help identify him. In its statement, Tigard police thanked “our partners in the community for their help in quickly identifying him.”
On Sunday evening, according to police, the victim was walking on the Fanno Creek Trail, near the Tigard Public Library, when a man allegedly began following her and then physically attacked her. He took off running, and the woman was left sprawled on the trail, unconscious.
Bikers on the trail helped the woman and called 911. The woman, whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and remained hospitalized as of Tuesday.
Police said the attack appeared to be random.
