A 47-year-old man was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of third-degree theft after he was caught siphoning gasoline from a rental truck/car business, according to a Lacey police social media post.

About 10:25 p.m., Lacey police were on patrol when they spotted a man with two large gas cans crossing the street.

As soon as the suspect saw the patrol car, he dropped the gas cans and ran off, according to police. But residents in the area pointed out the suspect to police and he was taken into custody.

A check of surveillance video confirmed that the man had been siphoning gas from rental trucks in the 4400 block of Lacey Boulevard Southeast.

The gasoline was returned to the business, according to police.
