Police have not said how many people died in Sunday’s shooting in Sandy nor have they named the man arrested around 8 p.m. in the incident.
But jail records show police booked Bryan Andrew Moore, 38, on three counts of second-degree murder Sunday.
A police officer was wounded in the incident but is expected to survive.
Events unfolded after police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance around 4 p.m. and issued a shelter in place order for nearby residents until the suspect’s arrest around 8 p.m.
In a press conference close to 10 p.m., Sandy Police Chief Patrick Huskey said, “There is no ongoing community threat. Everything is safe at this time.”
Reached by phone Sunday evening, Moore’s mother, Penny Anne Moore, said “we’re in pieces” and declined to comment further. A man who identified himself as her son-in-law said the family was not talking to the media at the moment.
Moore was accused in 2017 of assaulting another man with a knife. He was convicted of attempting to commit a Class B felony and unlawful use of a weapon and sentenced to 2 1/2 years in state prison.
That was not his first offense. Moore’s criminal record includes multiple convictions stretching back to 2007 when he was convicted of unauthorized use of a vehicle. Moore has also been convicted of theft, manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance and criminal mischief.
