The Centralia girls soccer team used a big second half to top Shelton on Tuesday, scoring three goals after the break in a 3-1 victory that snapped a three-game losing streak.

Shelton scored off a free kick in the 20th minute of the game, and the score remained 1-0 at the break.

“The message (at half) was that we control our own faith and we have to play the game,” Centralia coach Luis Magana said. “They definitely took that message to heart.”

The Tigers began applying pressure immediately once the second half began, and in the 49th minute, Cyndal Sills put a rebound in off a free kick to tie the game at one.

It wasn’t tied for long, as Sills scored on a free kick of her own just three minutes later to give Centralia the lead.

“I was happy to see Cyndal come through for us when we needed a spark to get us going,” Magana said.

The Tigers continued to generate chances throughout the rest of the second half, and in the 77th minute, Trinity Smith scored the insurance goal on an assist from Maddie Ahern.

By the end of the game, Centralia had tallied 13 shots, five corners, and five free kicks.

“Definitely happy with the result and how the girls reacted to the adversity,” Magana said. “They received the message at half and executed what we wanted.”

The win keeps the Tigers (5-7, 3-3 2A EvCo) in the top three of the EvCo standings, as they are a game up on both Black Hills and Aberdeen with four league games to play.

Centralia will head to Aberdeen on Thursday.
