State Commission Holds Two-Week Open House on Potential Airport Expansion With Toledo Still Listed as Finalist

The state commission examining six airports for possible expansion — including Toledo’s Ed Carlson Memorial Field — is hosting an online open house until Oct. 3.

Washingtonians can visit engage.wsdot.wa.gov/cacc to learn about and give feedback on the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission’s (CACC) work.

The goal is to identify the location for a new, Sea-Tac-sized airport, as well as other sites for small expansion and improvement projects.

Toledo residents voiced stiff opposition to the prospect earlier this year, prompting the county to rescind its support for major expansion, and although the town’s airport is still on the CACC’s official shortlist, officials have repeatedly said the airport isn’t a realistic option for a new major airport.

The open house is asynchronous, and is available in English and Spanish.

“The input Washington residents share through the online open house will play an important role in the recommendations the CACC develops,” a news release stated.

The CACC isn’t scheduled to present on its shortlist until February of next year.

That list will be whittled down to two options the following September.
