Spring Youth Fair Coming to Southwest Washington Fairgrounds This Weekend

The Spring Youth Fair will be held Friday, May 5, through Sunday, May 7, at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds.

The fair’s hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. on May 5, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 6 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 7.

According to Lee Coumbs, who is helping oversee the youth fair as he has for decades, there will be a wide variety of activities, animals and food at this year’s fair.

Coumbs said there will be about 1,000 animals at the fair, including goats, pigs, horses and cows.

“We have almost every animal you can think of,” Coumbs said.

There will also be about 3,000 “still life” objects at the fair, which Coumbs described as “things that don’t eat or poop.”

Coumbs told The Chronicle there will be many fun opportunities for children, with most of the fair vendors holding activities. A bounce house will be open at the fair all three days.

The Boy Scouts will have a jamboree and will set up in the area underneath the grandstands.

There will also be a dance held on Friday night.

Another activity will be a pedal tractor pull on Saturday and Sunday at noon. Coumbs said anyone can enter the tractor pull and will just have to stand in line and get weighed to be placed in a weight class.

According to Coumbs, on Saturday and Sunday, fair attendees will have an easier time getting around the fair by being able to ride a trolley from one end of the grounds to the other.

For food, the fair will have what Coumbs described as “normal fair foods” with options ranging from “ice cream to hamburgers to elephant ears.”

“There’s a good variety of food,” Coumbs said.

Entry to the Spring Youth Fair will be $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for children and free for children under the age of 6. Parking for the fair will be $5. On Friday night, parking and admission will be free.
