The Lewis County Auditor's Office announced a special filing period after the closure of the county’s normal open filing period the week before.
According to a news release from the Lewis County Auditor's Office, the three-day special filing period for a small group of offices that received no registered candidates during the standard filing period will start Monday, May 19, at 8 a.m. and close on Wednesday, May 21, at 5 p.m. Like the standard filing period, candidates can register in person at the Lewis County Courthouse during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., via mail or online at https://voter.votewa.gov/candidatefiling/candidatelogin.aspx.
Any filing done by mail must be received by the Lewis County Elections Department of the Lewis County Auditor’s Office before filing closes at 5 p.m. May 21. Candidates who register to run for one of the offices open for registration during the special filing period will appear on the ballot for the Nov. 4 general election regardless of the number of candidates that register for the same office.
Offices that still have no candidates registered for the 2025 election date will be considered lapsed and removed from the general election ballot, according to the Lewis County Auditor’s Office.
No write-in votes will be accepted for lapsed offices and the incumbent of the office — if there is one — will retain their seat until the next election for the position.
The Chehalis School District Director at-large Position 4 seat has been added to the list of races in the special filing period because of a mistake during the regular filing period by the Lewis County Auditor’s Office. The race had previously been for only residents of a specific district but became an at-large seat by vote. Anyone in the Chehalis School District who meets basic requirements will be allowed to run. Incumbent Kelsi Hamilton filed her candidacy last week.
