The Southwest Washington Mycological Society is inviting community members to attend its next meeting on Tuesday, April 4, at 6 p.m.

During the meeting, attendees will hear from the mycologist Daniel Winkler, who the club describes as a “distinguished guest.” According to the announcement from the club, Winkler was a highlight when he last presented in 2018.

Winkler will be sharing his knowledge of edible mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest with his new book “Fruits of the Forest — Handbook to Edible Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest.” He will discuss the identification, collection, preparation and storage of edible mushrooms as well as the different habitats and seasonality of mushrooms.

Winkler will also share “fungal fun” facts from his ethno-mycological research and “mushroaming” adventure travels.

The event will take place in the meeting room of the Lewis County Fire District 6 Station 61 at 2123 Jackson Highway in Chehalis.
