The Southwest Washington Fairgrounds unveiled the change of four street names within the fairgrounds property to pay homage to three longtime fair contributors.
The street names, debuted during a presentation at the Tuesday night Centralia City Council meeting, include Lee Coumbs Lane, Coumbs Court, Mary Jane Lane and Boss Hogg Byway.
Lee Coumbs Lane honors former Centralia Mayor Lee Coumbs, who was the founder of the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds Spring Youth Fair and served more than 40 years for the event. He passed away on Dec. 9, 2024. Lee Coumbs Lane will be located between the exposition hall and the poultry barn next to the community stage.
Coumbs Court was named for his family and will be located on the road between the 4-H building and the restroom.
Mary Jane Lane is named after Mary Jane Fox, who held leadership positions at the Southwest Washington Fair and was inducted to the Washington state 4-H Hall of Fame in 2001. Fox passed away on March 25, 2025.
Mary Jane Lane will be located by the horse department.
Boss Hogg Byway honors Curtis Marsh, known to most as “Boss Hogg.” He took the swine department from a small group of less than 10 pigs to a program that accommodates hundreds of 4-H and FFA projects for both the Southwest Washington Fair and the Spring Youth Fair, according to his 2016 obituary. Boss Hogg Byway will be located on the road by the swine barn and the green gate.
All four signs will be up for viewing on the first day of the Southwest Washington Fair on Aug. 12 and will be permanently installed.
