The rumble of engines, the banging of metal and checkered flags are once again back at the South Sound Speedway just southwest of Tenino on Highway 507.
The three-eights mile oval race track includes a figure eight course with racing most Saturdays through September.
So far this season, half of the four races have been cancelled due to rain, but the drivers did get in a full slate of competition this past weekend. Brad McCutcheon racked up his first win ever in the Baby Grands Saturday. McCutcheon is a second year racer from Mason County.
The Street Stockers had their usual spin outs, minor collisions and what might be described as a mass pileup in lap 14 of the Street Stock Main. Later in the same race, Chad Hinkle’s number 13 car caught fire on the backstretch of lap 35. Hinkle was leading the race at the time of the fire.
