Sonja Lee Fulkerson: 1939-2022

Sonja Lee Fulkerson was unexpectedly called away on Feb. 4, 2022. She was born in San Bernardino, California to Roy and Una Burns on April 22, 1939. Sonja attended school in Fullerton, California, where she graduated from high school in 1957.

In 1957, she married Richard Glen Fulkerson. In 1967, they moved from Fullerton, California to Centralia, Washington, where they raised their four daughters, Dee, Dawn, Darcy and Debra.

Sonja was a lifelong member of The Church of Christ and she attended the Twin Cities Church of Christ since they moved here in 1967. Sonja will always be remembered for her strong Christian faith and being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Una; husband Richard; sister Ruby Medina; daughter Debra Swett; grandson Robbie Swett; granddaughter Tara Tharpe; and great-grandson BentLee Clark. 

Sonja is survived by her sister Carol Rosen; daughters Dee Clark, Dawn Fulkerson and Darcy (Andy) Ponder, all of Centralia; grandchildren Jake Clark, Josh Clark, Katy Engel, Travis Tharpe, Jacquelyn Ponder, Sean Creech, Shane Creech, Amie Curtright, Darrel Swett, Richie Swett and Kerri Small; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

True to her strong Christian faith and her unique sense of humor she requests the following to be written on her memorial marker, “Thank you for coming, but I’m not here!”
