A 58-year-old woman living in Seattle’s Yesler Terrace neighborhood was stabbed by her son early Sunday in what police called “an unprovoked attack inside her apartment.”

Police announced the son, 28, had been arrested Sunday afternoon, revising an earlier report Sunday identifying the woman's daughter, 33, as the suspect. Further investigation, including statements from the victim and witnesses, identified the mother's son as the assailant, police said.

The mother remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson with Harborview Medical Center said.

Officers responded to the apparent attack just before 1 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor called 911 when the victim came to the door. When police arrived in the 1100 block of East Fir Street, they found she’d been stabbed in the neck, face, arm and leg. She was transferred to Harborview.

A police spokesperson initially said officers determined the woman had been woken up by her daughter and attacked with a butcher knife. She was again attacked in the hallway, police said.

The daughter fled before officers arrived.

Hours later, police reversed course and identified the son as the attacker. He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault in the first degree.
