Costco’s cult-favorite $1.50 hot-dog-and-drink combo is changing.
Don’t panic. The Issaquah-headquartered company hasn’t changed the meal deal’s price; the company’s 89-year-old co-founder once said he would be dead before that happened. (He's alive, but retired.)
Instead, fountain soda dispensers at the company’s warehouse stores in Woodinville and Shoreline are among those that are red instead of blue for the first time since 2013. The change comes about six months after Costco’s CEO announced the company would switch from selling PepsiCo products in its food courts to those of Coca-Cola starting this summer.
Soda dispensers at the company’s warehouse stores in Shoreline and Woodinville are now serving several Coca-Cola products, including Diet Coke, Sprite, Barq’s Root Beer and Minute Maid lemonade.
The swap may seem small, but it represents big business for Costco, which sold 229 million of its hot-dog-and-soda combos in 2024, up from nearly 200 million the year prior. The deal includes a quarter-pound hot dog on a sesame seed bun and a 20-ounce soda that comes with free refills. (Accouterments from the food court’s condiment stations like ketchup, mustard and relish also are free.)
Costco has historically pitted two of the world's top-selling beverage brands against each other during its soda contract bids, switching from Coca-Cola to PepsiCo products in 2013 as a way to keep its famous combo’s $1.50 price.
Representatives for Costco, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo did not immediately respond on Monday to inquiries.
