Sirens: Wigs found under stairs, street racing, injured bald eagle at Borst Park

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Assault

• A man reportedly punched a woman in the throat in the 700 block of North National Avenue just after 11:05 a.m. on March 29. Officers responded but were unable to locate the suspect or the victim.

• A woman reported her ex-boyfriend “put his hand over her mouth and told her to stop talking” in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 4:20 a.m. on March 31.

 

Theft

• A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 700 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue just after 11:10 a.m. on March 29.

• Registration and proof of insurance were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Southeast Ninth Street at approximately 11:55 a.m. on March 29.

• A theft was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8:50 p.m. on March 30.

 

Juvenile problems

• Two juveniles were reportedly at an assisted living facility they weren’t supposed to be at in the 1700 block of Southwest Armstrong Court at approximately 12:50 p.m. on March 29. Officers determined the situation was a civil issue and no crime had occurred.

• A citizen reported approximately eight juveniles were riding bikes and scooters in the 600 block of Southeast Dobson Court just after 4:30 p.m. on March 30. Officers confirmed no crime had occurred.

• A “juvenile problem” reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 9:10 p.m. on March 30 is under investigation.

• A citizen reported an “ongoing issue with teenagers in the neighborhood harassing residents” in the 200 block of Southwest John Street at approximately 3:50 p.m. on March 31.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest West Street and Northwest Rhode Island Place just before 2:40 p.m. on March 29.

• A non-injury, single-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 2:25 p.m. on March 30. The accident occurred when a vehicle’s “tire fell off.”

 

Hit-and-run

• A subject was cited for a hit-and-run in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 9:45 p.m. on March 30.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Just before 8:10 p.m. on March 29, a bicyclist at the intersection of Northwest Airport Road and Northwest Florida Avenue reported he asked a driver “not to get too close to the sidewalk,” and the driver “started screaming at him and following him.”

• Just after 12:05 p.m. on March 30, a woman in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue reported she was following a man who she suspected stole her purse when it fell out of her vehicle the day prior. Officers confirmed the man did not match photos of the suspect.

• A citizen reported finding “two wigs underneath the stairwell” in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. on March 30.

• A citizen reported “suspicious subjects” took a picture of his fiancee while she was working in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 12:55 p.m. on March 30. He reported he “thinks it could be sex traffickers.” The citizen said he “just wants to make law aware of the odd situation and understands there is no crime.”

• A citizen reported her son’s Airpods that were “lost/stolen” in Winlock the day prior were “pinging” at an address in the 1300 block of Northwest Airport Road just after 2:45 p.m. on March 31.

• A man “in all black clothing with black sunglasses and black gloves” reportedly “hid in the bathroom” of a business in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 10:15 p.m. on March 31.

 

Death

• A death reported in the 900 block of Southwest 20th Street just before 8:10 p.m. on March 30 is under investigation.

 

Criminal trespass

• A woman who was “running up and down the alley, screaming” in the 200 block of Southwest James Street just after 2:35 p.m. on March 31 was trespassed from the area.

 

Dispute

• A verbal dispute involving a man and a woman “screaming about shooting dogs” and a man “threatening to kill (a) dog” was reported in the 100 block of Northeast Summit Road at approximately 5:55 p.m. on March 31.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a vehicle’s windows was reported in the 900 block of West Walnut Street just before 9:25 a.m. on March 29.

• Damage to a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of West Plum Street at 9:10 p.m. on March 31.

 

Criminal trespass 

• A homeless Toledo resident was warned for trying to set up camp on city property at the intersection of West Bridge Street and Harrison Avenue just after 11:10 a.m. on March 29.

• A homeless Centralia resident was trespassed from a business in the 1100 block of View Avenue at approximately 11:55 p.m. on March 29.

• A 56-year-old Rochester man was cited for second-degree criminal trespass in the 100 block of South Pearl Street just after 6:35 p.m. on March 29.

• A business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue asked officers to trespass a subject from the business just before 12:20 p.m. on March 30. The subject left the scene before officers arrived.

• A 47-year-old homeless Centralia resident accused of stealing laundry from a clothesline in the 1000 block of West Main Street was trespassed from the area at approximately 11:40 a.m. on March 31.

 

Theft

• A possible theft was reported in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue just after 1:55 p.m. on March 29.

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 2:35 p.m. on March 29. The case is under investigation.

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 4:40 p.m. on March 29. The victim advised they have a video of the suspect. The case is under investigation.

• An Acura passenger car was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just before noon on March 30.

• A SSRM dirt bike and a Palmetto Arms AR-15 rifle were reported stolen from the 200 block of West Oakview Avenue at approximately 7:20 p.m. on March 30. The case is under investigation.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on March 29.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported on the northbound Interstate 5 onramp at Harrison Avenue at 1:35 p.m. on March 30.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 100 block of East High Street just after 3:55 p.m. on March 30.

 

Reckless driving

• Officers were dispatched to the report of two vehicles racing on Kresky Avenue just before 5:50 p.m. on March 29. One of the vehicles lost control after entering the viaduct and swerved to the left and right sides of the two-lane road, hitting the concrete viaduct on both sides before becoming disabled near the 800 block of South Gold Street. The second vehicle left the scene. The unlicensed juvenile driver of the disabled vehicle was cited for reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

 

Assault

• Antonio Rivera, 30, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail after he allegedly intentionally sideswiped another vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and collide with a tree in the 3300 block of Fords Prairie Avenue at 9:45 p.m. on March 29. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. “During the course of the investigation, it was found that Rivera and the victim knew each other and were involved in a civil dispute over a vehicle the week prior,” according to the Centralia Police Department. Rivera had a preliminary hearing for a felony vehicular assault charge in Lewis County Superior Court scheduled for 4 p.m. on April 1.

• A 34-year-old Centralia woman was arrested at the intersection of South Pearl and West Pear streets at 2:20 a.m. on March 30 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault for allegedly “spitting on a police officer when he responded to the scene of a dispute.” Another woman, 31, of Centralia, was arrested for attempting to stop officers from arresting the 34-year-old woman and for “refusing to comply with officers upon arrest.”

• A 40-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1900 block of Foxglove Lane just before 9:05 a.m. on March 30 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault.

• A parent allegedly “pushed and struck” a juvenile in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue, injuring the juvenile’s “head and body areas,” just before 9:25 p.m. on March 31. The juvenile was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. “It is believed at this time the injuries were minor, and charges will be filed once the medical results are obtained,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Disputes

• A physical dispute stemming from a road rage incident was reported in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue just before 10:20 p.m. on March 29. Neither party wished to pursue criminal charges.

• A dispute was reported at a bar in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 2:05 a.m. on March 30. No arrests were made.

• A verbal dispute between a husband and a wife was reported in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 9:55 a.m. on March 30.

 

Drug violation

• A 28-year-old Chehalis man and a 42-year-old Chehalis man were arrested in the 1000 block of South Gold Street just after 12:15 p.m. on March 30 after a caller reported they were “smoking illegal narcotics in a parking lot.” They were found to have suspected meth and fentanyl in their possession.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A man was seen “shooting what looked like an AR-style rifle at an abandoned old motorcycle near a dirt mound” in the 1100 block of South Yew Street at approximately 5:45 p.m. on March 31. Officers arrived in the area and contacted the male, who set the rifle down before officers arrived. Officers learned the rifle was actually a BB gun and warned the man about shooting a BB gun that looked like a real rifle.

 

Injured eagle

• An injured bald eagle was found in the Borst Park area at approximately 7:35 p.m. on March 31. Officers arrived on scene and saw the eagle “had an injured wing, but still appeared to be very aware and strong.” Officers attempted to contact local bird rescues and ultimately contacted the Washington state Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officers were advised not to try and catch the eagle due the special equipment needed. A state game agent advised they would respond in the morning to try and trap the eagle during the daytime.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 61 illness-related calls, 16 injury-related calls, 10 fire-related calls, four vehicle accidents, 10 non-emergency service calls, two overdoses, three Lifeline medical alerts, one ambulance request, one medical helicopter request, one public assist request and 10 other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 159 inmates, including 146 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 24 inmates, including 12 booked by the Centralia Police Department, seven booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tenino Police Department, two booked by the Lummi Nation and two booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
