Sirens: Victim jumped, robbed in park; suspect 'found hiding in a closet under a pile of clothes'; arrest made after log skidder stolen

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Preliminary appearances

• Matthew A. Enbody, 45, Toledo, made a preliminary appearance Feb. 23 for one count each of theft of a motor vehicle, first-degree trafficking in stolen property and second-degree theft after an investigation allegedly found that Enbody had stolen a man’s log skidder while the man was incarcerated. The court released Enbody on a $10,000 unsecured bond pending the resolution of the case.

• Travis J. Tharpe, 47, Centralia, made a preliminary appearance Feb. 23 for one count each of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, third-degree driving with a suspended or revoked license and obstructing a law enforcement officer after he allegedly fled a traffic stop and was later found “hiding in a closet under a pile of clothes,” according to court documents. The court set bail at $100,000 cash or bond. Tharpe pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment on Feb. 26.

• Vincent L. Bradley III, 19, made a preliminary appearance Feb. 25 from the Green Hill School for one count each of custodial assault and malicious mischief. An arraignment was scheduled for March 5. 

• Cody B. Rider, 27, Chehalis, made an out-of-custody preliminary appearance Feb. 25 for one count of second-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted a man at The Carlisle in Onalaska in January. According to court documents, “Rider voluntarily came into the Lewis County Sheriff's Office and admitted fault, claiming he had blacked out.” An arraignment was scheduled for March 5. 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Trevor L. Bartley, 30, Centralia, was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal items from a local store in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at about 1:01 p.m. Feb. 28. According to police, the Lewis County Jail would not accept Bartley into their facility due to a preexisting medical condition, so he was cited and released.

• Johnny M. Perkins, 64, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted a nurse at a local medical facility in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at about 9:16 p.m. Feb. 28.

Accidents

• A hit-and-run collision in a parking lot was reported in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 4:39 p.m. Feb. 28. No suspect information was available at the time.

•  Jose J. Leal Ortiz, 42, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for alleged hit-and-run in the 600 block of H Street at about 4:12 p.m. March 1.

• A hit-and-run collision of an unoccupied vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue at about 6:46 p.m. March 1. The case is under investigation.

Criminal trespass

• A transient person from King County was trespassed from private property in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at about 4:22 p.m. Feb. 27.

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of South Ash Street at about 6:55 p.m. Feb. 28. No suspect information was available at the time.

Minor in possession

• Two Centralia residents were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for minor in possession of alcohol in the 1300 block of Rose Street at about 11:22 p.m. March 1. 

Open container violation



• A 55-year-old Centralia resident was issued a criminal citation for an open container violation in the 100 block of East High Street at about 12:56 a.m. March 2. Police reportedly located the man outside a closed business with trash and open alcohol containers around him.

Possession of controlled substances

• Alexandria M. May, 25, and Eric A. Rappold, of Seattle, were arrested and released for alleged possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia in the 100 block of West High Street at about 7:28 p.m. Feb. 28.

Robbery

• Officers received a report of a robbery in the 100 block of Meridian Avenue at about 8:09 p.m. Feb. 27. According to the report, the victim met with a group of juveniles and one adult at a local park. During the interaction, the suspects allegedly jumped the victim, punching and hitting him with a pistol, before fleeing the scene. K9 Havik tracked from the scene of the incident to a local residence. During the investigation, police reportedly learned that six suspects were involved in the incident. Officers arrested three male juveniles for first-degree robbery and identified other suspects. Officers reportedly obtained two search warrants on two different houses and located clothing, evidence and a pistol. The case remains under investigation.

Theft

• Five juveniles stole candy from a local store in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at about 4:54 p.m. Feb. 27. According to police, the juveniles went behind the counter into an “employees only” location. The case is under investigation.

• Shoes from a local clothing store were reported stolen in the 1300 block of Lum Road at about 6:12 p.m. Feb. 27.

• Four suspects reportedly stole $2,000 to $3,000 worth of merchandise from a local clothing store in the 100 block of West High Street at about 8:47 p.m. Feb. 28. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Accidents

• Donald Reinseth was issued a citation for hit-and-run unattended in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 3:10 p.m. Feb. 27.

Criminal trespass

• A subject was booked and cited for one count of second-degree criminal trespass in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 3:16 a.m. Feb. 27.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of March 2, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 174 inmates, including 161 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 136 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of March 2, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 14 inmates. Of those, six were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one each from the Skokomish Tribe and the Suquamish Tribe.
