Sirens: Vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents, stolen mailbox, 'national emergency' at Britney Spears's house

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run on private property in the 600 block of West Pear Street was reported at 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 24. An officer located the suspect, but the victim did not want to press charges.

Criminal trespass

• A motel in the 1300 block of Lakeshore Drive reported a burglary just after 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 24. A woman had reportedly broken into a vacant hotel room, spent the night and used motel facilities. Officers contacted the woman when she returned to the motel the next day and trespassed her from the property at the motel’s request. The motel owner did not wish to pursue criminal charges.

• A disorderly homeless woman reportedly refused to leave a business in the 400 block of West Main Street just after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. The woman left before officers arrived. An officer located the woman later that day and trespassed her from the business’s property.

• Two people were reportedly harassing employees at a business in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 24. Both subjects were trespassed from the property.

• Homeless people were reportedly camping in a post office in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24. They were asked to move along.

• A disorderly homeless man reportedly refused to leave an emergency services building in the 1200 block of Borthwick Street at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Jan. 24. An officer located the man after he left the property and verbally warned him not to return to the property.

• A homeless man was reportedly sleeping in front of a business’s door in the 100 block of North Rock Street at 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 25. The subject left before officers arrived.

• A disorderly subject was reportedly trespassing on vacant business property in the 100 block of South Pearl Street just before 10:10 a.m. on Jan. 25. The subject left before officers arrived.

• A woman “who had previously made threats inside the library” in the 100 block of South Silver Street was trespassed from the library just after 2 p.m. on Jan. 25.

Theft

• A mailbox was reported stolen from the 1300 block of Lum Road at 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 24.

• A Centralia man was cited for third-degree theft in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 24.

• Items were reported stolen from a store in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at 4:35 p.m. on Jan. 25. The case is under investigation.

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a business’s chain-link fence was reported in the 200 block of Northup Street just after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 24.

• A 50-year-old Napavine man was arrested in the 500 block of North Iron Street just after 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 25 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree malicious mischief after he allegedly threw beer cans at an apartment building’s exterior window, breaking the window. He was additionally booked on outstanding local warrants.

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1200 block of North Tower Avenue at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 24. One of the involved drivers was cited for third-degree driving with a suspended license.

• A non-injury vehicle vs. pedestrian collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl and West First streets just before 5:50 p.m. on Jan. 24. The case is under investigation.

• A non-injury vehicle vs. pole collision was reported in a parking lot on private property in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported on private property in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue just after 6 p.m. on Jan. 25.

Hit-and-run

• A red Toyota passenger car reportedly hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk at the intersection of Centralia College Boulevard and South Washington Avenue just after 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 24. “The driver stopped to check the welfare of the victim, but left the scene prior to providing the victim with any information,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Assault

• A 43-year-old Centralia woman was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 700 block of North Tower Avenue after she allegedly punched someone in the face during a dispute.

 

Disputes

• A man reportedly “screamed (at) and chased” a woman into a business in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. on Jan. 24. The two subjects reportedly had a verbal dispute over a lighter the woman had taken.

• A possible dispute was reported at the intersection of Blair Road and West Reynolds Avenue just after 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 25. “After the investigation was complete, officers were unable to determine that a crime had been committed,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

Disorderly conduct

• A woman was reportedly “hitting a vehicle with a crowbar” in the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road just after 6:55 p.m. on Jan. 25. The vehicle’s owner advised the vehicle wasn’t damaged.

• A disorderly man was reportedly “screaming and going onto neighboring property” in the 1700 block of North Tower Avenue at 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 25. Centralia officers responded to assist the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The man “appeared to be having a mental health episode” and declined assistance from law enforcement.

Welfare check

• An officer responded to a report of a homeless man sleeping at the entryway to a business in the 600 block of South Diamond Street just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 25. The officer offered the man transport to the cold weather shelter, which he declined.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Disorderly conduct

• A “vagrant” was reportedly “screaming and yelling” in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard just after 7:55 a.m. on Jan. 24.

• A disorderly male subject who was “holding a plastic hanger that appears to be on fire” was moved along from the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 24.

Vehicle accidents

• A woman reported head pain after she was involved in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Market Boulevard and Southwest 11th Street just before 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 24.

• Just after 1:50 p.m. on Jan. 24, a caller reported he ran over a neighbor kid’s bicycle in the 800 block of Northwest Lake Street “several months ago,” said his vehicle was damaged and asked “who would be liable, the neighbors or him.”

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southwest 20th Street and South Market Boulevard just after 11:20 a.m. on Jan. 25.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a traffic pole was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 25.

• A hit-and-run reported at the intersection of Southwest First Street and South Market Boulevard at 5:10 a.m. on Jan. 26 is under investigation.

Theft

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just before 10:05 a.m. on Jan. 24.

• At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 24, a theft that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 1 p.m. that day was reported.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:55 p.m. on Jan. 24 is under investigation.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Jan. 24 is under investigation.

• Just after 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 25, a caller reported his wallet was stolen from the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue on July 9. The caller reported the state of Oregon required a police report to re-issue the caller’s concealed pistol license.

Harassment

• A case of possible ongoing harassment was reported at the intersection of Northwest Front Street and Northwest Pacific Avenue just after 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 24.

• At 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 25, a caller in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way reported receiving a voicemail with threats to “kidnap an employee,” stating “they are underground and not a group to be messed with.”

Criminal trespass

• A male subject who was “sitting in front of (a) property, mumbling to himself” in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 24 was cited for trespassing.

• A subject was moved along from “behind the flower bed” at a property in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue at 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 25.

Suspicious circumstances

• Just after 9:10 p.m. on Jan. 24, a caller in the 1300 block of Southwest William Avenue reported a “national emergency” at “Britney Spears’s house,” saying “he’s talking about the governor in California and he needs to protect her.”

Malicious mischief

• Just after 7:10 a.m. on Jan. 25, a caller reported two subjects approached the caller’s vehicle at the intersection of Northwest Chehalis Avenue and Northwest Prindle Street and “hit the bottom of it with something” and then left.

• Malicious mischief reported in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street just after 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 25 is under investigation.

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 146 inmates, including 133 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 111 were reported male and 22 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
