Sirens: Three vehicle prowls, one parking lot; Theft suspect rams patrol car; Missing elderly man found

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A disorderly Kent man was trespassed from Amtrak property in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue just after 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 25.

• A male subject was reportedly trespassing on railroad tracks in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue just before 4:35 a.m. on Feb. 26. He left before officers arrived.

• A 32-year-old Oregon man was arrested for trespassing in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 26.

• A homeless man from Salkum was trespassed from a business in the 1600 block of Kresky Avenue just before 11 a.m. on Feb. 27.

• A 40-year-old homeless man from Chehalis was trespassed from private property in the 1200 block of B Street just after 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 28.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly subject was reported at a business in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue just after 6:45 p.m. on Feb. 26.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Officers responded to a report of subjects parked outside of a business and “making the employees uncomfortable” in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 26.

• Just after 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 26, a business in the 1000 block of Johnson Road asked an officer to check on a male who had been “hunched over outside the business for approximately 20 minutes and appeared to be on drugs.” Officers responded and attempted to contact the man, but “he advised he did not wish to speak to law enforcement and left.” An officer contacted him shortly after, advised him of local resources and offered transportation to the cold weather shelter, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Theft

• At 12:50 p.m. on Feb. 25, a bicycle theft that occurred within the last 30 minutes in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue was reported. After obtaining a description of the stolen bicycle, the officer checked the area and contacted a male riding the bike.  The man, 43, of Chehalis, was cited for third-degree theft.

• Just after 6:55 a.m. on Feb. 27, there was a report that three separate vehicles parked at a business in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue had been broken into. All three vehicles were locked and all three had a window smashed to gain entry. Several wallets, cash, cell phones, keys and laptop were stolen. The case is under investigation.

• A vape pen was reported stolen from a library in the 100 block of South Silver Street at 3:25 p.m. on Feb. 27. An officer obtained video footage of the theft. The case is under investigation.

 

Drug violations

• A 48-year-old Chehalis woman was cited for possession of meth in the 600 block of South Diamond Street just after 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. She was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding Chehalis Municipal Court warrant.

• A 37-year-old Winlock woman was arrested for refusing to leave the bathroom of a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 9:10 a.m. on Feb. 26. She reportedly had suspected meth on her person at the time of her arrest.

 

Vehicle accidents

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 26. The at-fault driver, a 35-year-old Centralia man, was cited for reckless driving.

• A pedestrian sustained minor injuries after they were hit by a vehicle in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 2:55 p.m. on Feb. 26.

 

Disputes

• A domestic dispute was reported in the 1000 block of Centralia College Boulevard just before 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 26.

• A dispute reported in the 700 block of Euclid Way just before 12:55 p.m. on Feb. 27 is under investigation.

• An assault complaint stemming from a “disturbance/dispute” was reported in the 800 block of South Gold Street at 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 28. The suspect left the scene before officers arrived.

 

Assault

• Jeffery A. Zupan, 22, of Tacoma, was arrested in the 100 block of West High Street at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Feb. 26 after he allegedly stole $497.62 in merchandise from an outlet store and fled out of the outlet’s emergency exit. An officer observed the theft and followed Zupan until he got into a vehicle. Zupan allegedly put his vehicle into reverse and rammed the front of the officer’s patrol car while the officer was in the car. The officer used his patrol car to push the suspect’s vehicle over the curb, pinning it between the patrol car and the outlet building. Zupan was booked into the Lewis County Jail and has since been charged with one count of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and third-degree retail theft with special circumstances.

• A 26-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 100 block of Lilac Lane just after 1:10 a.m. on Feb. 28 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, domestic violence. An additional third-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence charge was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

DUI

• Officers were dispatched to a civil stand-by request regarding a verbal dispute between domestic partners in the 400 block of North Iron Street at 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 26.  Law enforcement was advised that one of the parties was under the influence of alcohol. An officer responded to the scene and learned that one of the parties, a 47-year-old Albany, Oregon resident who was under the influence of alcohol, had left in their vehicle but had returned to the scene. They were arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 11:10 a.m. on Feb. 27.

 

Missing person

• Just before 4:50 p.m. on Feb. 27, officers were dispatched to the report of a missing 82 year old male who left a residence in the 1100 block of South Scheuber Road on foot over an hour ago. Officers checked the area and contacted Twin Transit to inquire if the male got on a bus. A Twin Transit employee recognized the missing male from a photo the officer provided and directed officers to the location where he was dropped off. While en-route to the location, officers located the male walking along the roadway. Upon contact, the missing male advised the officer that he was trying to find his way back home. The male was returned home to his family, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 



Harassment

• Harassment involving threats made via social media was reported in the 600 block of South Gold Street at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 27. The case is under investigation.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

DUI

• A possible DUI was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:35 a.m. on Feb. 26. The male driver reportedly had “a large glass bong.” Washington State Patrol was advised.

• A subject was arrested in the 700 block of North National Avenue just after 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 27 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

 

Criminal trespass

• A woman was moved along from a business in the 600 block of Northwest State Avenue just before 10 a.m. on Feb. 26.

• At 10:35 a.m. on Feb. 26, a caller in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue asked officers to “go tell the employees at the mission they were wrong for trespassing him from the property.”

• A case of trespassing reported in the 1900 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:45 a.m. on Feb. 27 is under investigation.

• A homeless subject was reportedly sleeping on a doorstep in the 1200 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 6:10 a.m. on Feb. 27.

• A male subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after noon on Feb. 27. An officer confirmed the subject had not been trespassed from the property.

• A male subject was reportedly sleeping inside a post office in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 27.

 

Burglary

• Just after 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 26, a resident in the 10 block of Southeast Fairview Avenue reported a man in a “black mask with a large hunting knife” tried to get into his residence at 9:30 a.m. The resident reported the suspect “was banging on the front door and back door” but “did not gain entry.”

• Just after 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 26, a resident in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street reported “someone might have been trying to get into her house sometime in the past few days,” as there were “scratch marks on her door.”

 

Malicious mischief

• A case of second-degree malicious mischief reported in the 400 block of Northeast Hampe Way at 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 26 is under investigation.

 

Disputes

• A civil dispute over ownership of a dog was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just after 6:25 p.m. on Feb. 26.

 

Theft

• A male subject reportedly stole “three sweatshirts and Crocs or slides” from a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:05 p.m. on Feb. 26.

 

Juvenile problem

• Two juveniles were reportedly “boxing,” with a third juvenile recording them, in a parking lot in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street just after 7:40 p.m. on Feb. 26.

• A group of juveniles allegedly attempted a vehicle prowl in the 700 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 11 p.m. on Feb. 26. The reporting party said he “stopped them from getting into his vehicle by coming outside,” saying he “possibly surprised them.”

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Just before 8:50 a.m. on Feb. 27, a caller in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street reported her neighbor was stalking her. She was advised to obtain a civil protection order.

• A possible vehicle prowl was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just before 10:05 a.m. on Feb. 27.

• A male subject who possibly had “a knife in his hand” was reportedly “lingering around” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.

 

Assault

• A subject was arrested for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence after a mother reported her daughter “busted a window” and pushed her in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 5:35 p.m. on Feb. 27.

• Just after 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 27, an employee at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported “a subject in a black Jeep Wrangler pulled around to where she was and pulled out a gun,” pointed it at the employee and her friend, and “Said he was going to shoot them.” The subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree assault.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Tuesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 177 inmates, including 163 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 137 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and three were reported female.
