Sirens: Report of fatal hammer attack deemed false; attempted carjacking attempt leads to arrest; juvenile grabs alcoholic beverage, runs

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Jeffrey W. Davis, 43, Oregon, was arrested for second-degree attempted robbery after he allegedly tried to enter an occupied vehicle in an apparent carjacking attempt near the 600 block of South Tower Avenue at about 7:02 a.m. March 20. Prosecutors reportedly declined the charge. Davis was also referred for charges of second-degree criminal trespass for allegedly going onto a property and refusing to leave as police were being called to the scene.

• Victor A. Golovanov, 44, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for alleged DUI after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into a concrete traffic barrier in the 1700 block of Industrial Drive at about 11:07 a.m. March 20. Further investigation reportedly revealed that Golovanov had evidence of financial crimes in his possession, including alleged bank cards belonging to others and a false ID. The case is under investigation.

• Daniel A. Vallin, 26, Chehalis, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence) after he allegedly entered a residence without permission and damaged property in the 1300 block of Johnson Road at about 4:22 a.m. March 21.

• Trevor Craig, 26, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree criminal trespass in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at about 3:13 a.m. March 22. Craig was also arrested for resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to police, Craig allegedly attempted to pull away from the arresting officer and had a used drug needle on his person.

• Ryan L. Brailey, 44, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) after an alleged dispute with a household member in the 700 block of West Main Street at about 1:04 p.m. March 22.

• Julene Williams, 34, Marysville, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for organized retail theft after allegedly stealing more than $2,000 in merchandise from two local businesses in the 1300 block of Lum Road at about 6:56 p.m. March 22. Lawrence Hatch, 45, Marysville, was referred to Lewis County Superior Court for organized retail theft for his alleged involvement in the thefts. Hatch was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail for allegedly eluding law enforcement during the incident.

Attempted burglary

• Two subjects attempted to break into a business in the 400 block of South Tower Avenue at about 5 a.m. March 22 using a prying tool. The subjects were unsuccessful and fled on foot when security alarms sounded. Police learned that the same subjects successfully broke into a business in Chehalis. The case is under investigation.

Burglary

• A juvenile was referred to Lewis County Juvenile Court for residential burglary after allegedly forcing his way into a residence and assaulting another juvenile in the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road at about 6:58 p.m. March 20.

Child abuse

• Officers received a report of potential child abuse in the 100 block of West Maple Street at about 3:46 p.m. March 20. The case is under investigation.

Criminal trespass

• A male was trespassed from a property in the 2400 block of Cooks Hill Road at about 8:31 a.m. March 20 after he tried to enter a building that was closed to the public.

• A male was trespassed from a financial institution in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at about 12:01 p.m. March 20 after he was observed peering through the windows and making vulgar gestures toward staff.

• A 45-year-old Centralia man was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged first-degree criminal trespass in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard at about 2:20 a.m. March 21.

False reporting

•  Officers received a report that a female had been assaulted and possibly killed with a hammer in the 300 block of East Oakview Avenue at about 12:48 p.m. March 21. The caller reportedly stated that he was hiding within the residence. Officers arrived at the residence and determined the report was false and a “swatting” incident, wherein the reporting person was attempting to initiate a law enforcement response at the residence. The case is under investigation.

Drug possession

• Joseph M. Gomes, 41, Winlock, was arrested and issued a criminal citation for alleged possession of a controlled substance and possession or use of drug paraphernalia in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 10:23 a.m. March 22.



Fire

• Centralia police assisted Chehalis police and multiple fire departments with a residential structure fire at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at about 1:28 a.m. March 21. Police said no residents were hurt in the fire.

Nuisance violation

• A 37-year-old Centralia resident was issued a criminal citation for camping on city property/parks in the 400 block of North Tower Avenue at about 6:23 a.m. March 20.

• A 48-year-old Winlock resident was issued a criminal citation for violating city code after allegedly walking into the roadway while soliciting drivers in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 8:25 p.m. March 22.

Hit-and-run

• Madison Mounts, 18, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for an alleged hit-and-run with no valid operator’s license near the corner of Harrison Avenue and West Bridge Street at about 5:15 p.m. March 20. Forest Galloway, 39, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for allegedly making false statements to a public servant.

Theft

• Officers received a report of theft from a local business in the 400 block of East Summa Street at about 7:11 p.m. March 20. The case is under investigation.

• A firearm was reported stolen from a locked safe in the 1400 block of Lewis Street at about 6:23 p.m. March 21. The case is under investigation.

• A juvenile was referred to Lewis County Juvenile Court for third-degree theft (domestic violence), minor in possession of alcohol and resisting arrest after allegedly stealing an alcoholic beverage from a family household member and fleeing from law enforcement in the 1000 block of North Washington Avenue at about 6:22 p.m. March 22.

Vehicle theft

• A vehicle was reported stolen in the 100 block of Jalyn Street at about 4:10 p.m. March 21. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Chehalis Police Department has not yet released its most recent call reports. Look for updated information in an upcoming edition of The Chronicle and at chronline.com when the reports are made available.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of March 23, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 170 inmates, including 157 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 130 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of March 23, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 14 inmates. Of those, nine were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis, one was from Elma and two were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one from the Quileute Nation.
