Sirens: Over $1,000 in merchandise from a store; four juveniles shoot Orbeez pellets; Burglary report not what it seems

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Drug violations

• A 36-year-old Centralia man was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license and possession of meth in the 1400 block of Lum Road at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Feb. 18.

• A 40-year-old Chehalis man was cited for possession of meth at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 after an off-duty police officer “witnessed drug-related activity in their vehicle in a public parking lot” in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue.

 

Theft

• A wallet and its contents were reported stolen from a business in the 200 block of South Pearl Street just after 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 18. The victim’s debit and credit cards “were immediately used.” The case is under investigation.

• A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 500 block of North Iron Street at 3 p.m. on Feb. 19.

• A juvenile was arrested in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Feb. 19 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for refusing to return a cellphone to a family member and for damaging two additional cellphones.

• Two women reportedly stole “numerous bottles of liquor” from a business in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at 6:20 p.m. on Feb. 19 and fled on Harrison Avenue toward Interstate 5. Officers were unable to locate the suspects’ vehicle.

• Two suspects allegedly stole over $1,000 in merchandise from a store in the 100 block of West High Street just before 6:40 p.m. on Feb. 19 and fled in a green Ford dually pickup with no license plates. An officer located the vehicle on the Harrison Avenue on-ramp to Interstate 5 and attempted to stop it, but it fled at a high rate of speed northbound on I-5. The officer did not pursue in compliance with state law.

• Two generators and a laser were reported stolen from a business in the 3700 block of Northpark Drive at 7:05 a.m. on Feb. 20.

• A 37-year-old Centralia woman was arrested in the 400 block of West Main Street just after 11:55 a.m. on Feb. 20 for stealing beer from a convenience store.

• A 36-year-old homeless man from Seattle was cited for shoplifting from a shoe outlet in the 140 block of West High Street just before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.

• A silver 1999 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the 1100 block of South Pearl Street at 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 20.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and East High Street just after 3:35 p.m. on Feb. 18 is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run that occurred in the 1500 block of Lum Road in December 2023 was reported just before 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 19.

 

Vehicle accident

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1100 block of South Gold Street just before 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 20.

 

Assault

• Just after 5:35 p.m. on Feb. 18, officers received three separate reports of four juveniles shooting Orbeez pellets at pedestrians from a moving vehicle at the intersection of West Main and North King streets. A similar incident involving the same juvenile suspects was reported the day prior. An officer located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and “took enforcement action related to the traffic stop.” None of the pedestrians hit by the pellets wished to press charges, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 61-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1300 block of Crescent Avenue just after 8:40 p.m. on Feb. 20 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. A 38-year-old Centralia woman was also referred to Centralia Municipal Court for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Criminal trespass

• A disorderly man was trespassed from a business in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue just before 6:40 p.m. on Feb. 18.

• Officers received a request to trespass a disorderly, intoxicated male from a business in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue just after 9:40 p.m. on Feb. 18. The male left the scene before officers arrived.

• A homeless person from Longview was trespassed from a business in the 300 block of North Gold Street just after 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 19 for disorderly conduct.

• An 18-year-old homeless man from Olympia was trespassed from a restaurant in the 120 block of South Tower Avenue at 8:20 a.m. on Feb. 20 for “being disorderly and refusing to leave.”

 

Welfare check

• Officers received a request to trespass a homeless man “who appeared to be on drugs” from a business in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Feb. 18. The man left the property before officers arrived, but he was contacted a short time later for “sitting in the middle of the road” near the intersection of Galvin Road and Harrison Avenue. “Due to the male’s actions and mental state,” officers had the man admitted to the hospital under the Involuntary Treatment Act.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “screaming and threatening staff” in the 100 block of North Gold Street at 2:45 a.m. on Feb. 19. The man was asked to leave for the night.

 

Camping

• A homeless person from Longview was warned for starting a fire on city property in the 700 block of South Pearl Street just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 19.

 

DUI

• A 47-year-old Napavine woman was arrested at the intersection of South Gold and Chestnut streets just before 3 p.m. on Feb. 19 for DUI and for several outstanding warrants.

• A 24-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of North Pearl and East Carson streets at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

 

Malicious mischief

• Just before 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 20, a caller reported the tires on their vehicle were slashed in the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road.

 

Sexual misconduct

• A 28-year-old Oakville man was cited for masturbating in public in the 100 block of Pioneer Way at 4:55 p.m. on Feb. 20.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• At 12:40 p.m. on Feb. 16, a caller in the 200 block of Southwest James Street reported someone tried to steal their neighbor’s patio chair.

• A female subject reportedly stole a backpack with clothes and hygiene products from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 16. The stolen items were recovered.

• A vehicle theft reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 16 is under investigation.

• An employee reportedly stole money out of a business’s cash register in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 19.



• A possible theft was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:05 p.m. on Feb. 20.

• A male subject was reportedly siphoning gas from a vehicle in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just before 6:05 a.m. on Feb. 21.

 

Burglary

• A possible burglary was reported in the 200 block of Southwest Lewis Street just after 4:25 p.m. on Feb. 16. A male subject initially reported a woman broke into his garage, then his “wife got on the phone and said (her) husband was lying — he just got caught cheating.”

• Juveniles reportedly attempted to pry open a window to a residence in the 200 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Feb. 17.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “yelling and pushing people” in the 300 block of Northwest North Street just before 3:05 p.m. on Feb. 16.

 

Assault

• A man reported “he was slapped” in the 300 block of Northwest Market Boulevard just before 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 16. He did not wish to press charges.

 

Harassment

• A case of telephone harassment reported in the 1500 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 6:15 a.m. on Feb. 17 is under investigation.

• At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 19, a caller reported three male subjects in a white hatchback blocked her vehicle, started cat-calling her then began following her in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The caller advised she “has a gun and carries.” Officers confirmed she made it home without issue about 15 minutes later.

• Just after 9:05 a.m. on Feb. 20, a business in the 300 block of Southwest Riverside Drive reported a terminated employee was sending harassing messages to a current employee.

• A caller in the 100 block of Southeast Fairview Avenue reported “harassment/extortion” at 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 20. The caller “advised they are threatening to SWAT family members and have already SWAT-ted their son in Colorado,” according to the Chehalis Police Department.

 

Disputes

• A verbal dispute was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 11:50 a.m. on Feb. 17.

• A possible physical dispute was reported at the intersection of Northeast Washington Avenue and Northeast Division Street just before  12:25 p.m. on Feb. 17.

• A possible verbal dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 5 a.m. on Feb. 19. The reporting party stated “walls are shaking, dogs are crying (and) people are yelling.”

 

Counterfeiting

• Just after 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 17, a caller reported a customer at a store in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard gave a cashier a fake $100 bill and demanded money back.

 

Criminal trespass

  A male subject who reportedly attempted “return fraud” at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:05 p.m. on Feb. 17 was trespassed from the business.

• Just after 6:05 p.m. on Feb. 18, a caller reported her “neighbor who she has problems with” showed up at the caller’s workplace in the 500 block of West Main Street. The caller advised she is working to get a restraining order against the neighbor.

• A shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 18.

• A homeless man was reportedly “kicking concrete blocks” and “picking up busted concrete and dropping/throwing it on (the) ground” in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just before 12:15 a.m. on Feb. 20. He was trespassed from the property.

• A subject reportedly trespassed at a grocery store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:25 a.m. on Feb. 20.

• A subject reportedly trespassed in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 20.

 

Juvenile problems

• A caller reported her 11-year-old sister was being harassed by some older girls at the intersection of Southwest McFadden Avenue and Southhest 13th Street at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.

• Three juveniles were               reportedly “causing problems” in the 500 block of Southwest Parkland Drive at 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 18.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 18 is under investigation.

 

Vehicle accidents

• Minor injuries were reported in a vehicle accident reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 18.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southwest Cascade Avenue and Southwest Third Street just after 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 19.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 20.

 

Prison riots

• A “major youth incident” that occurred at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street on Jan. 5 was reported at 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 19.

• A “major youth incident” that occurred at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street on Jan. 11 was reported just after 3:55 p.m. on Feb. 19.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Just after 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, a caller reported homeless subjects “set up a drug camp” in the 300 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 167 inmates, including 152 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 126 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 13 were reported male and two were reported female.
