Sirens: Organized retail theft arrest; man spits in officer's face; home ransacked in burglary; possible animal abuse reported

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Jared S. Armitage, 21, of Centralia, was arrested at about 12:20 p.m. Aug. 25 and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, in the 700 block of High Street.

• Lopez F. Matias-Gaspar, 72, of Chehalis, was arrested at about 2:35 p.m. Aug. 25 for allegedly driving under influence after being involved in a collision at the corner of East First Street and North Tower Avenue.

• Elise C. Wray, 39, of Centralia, was arrested after allegedly attempting to assault officers with a cooler at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and M Street.

• Arturo Rosales Jr., 34, of California, was arrested after being contacted in a vehicle at about 4:11 p.m. Aug. 25 and being in possession of suspected narcotics in plain view. During the course of the investigation, Rosales admitted to having two firearms in the vehicle, which was located at the corner of East Chestnut Street and Field Avenue. Previous convictions prohibited Rosales to possess firearms.

• Cameron Whalen, 36, of Centralia, was arrested and booked in the Chehalis Tribal Jail for second-degree criminal trespass after being found in a location in the 100 block of South Pearl Street that he had previously been trespassed from at about 2:18 a.m. Aug. 26.

• Natalia Baptiste, 38, of Tacoma, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail, and Sheyleanna Perez, 26, of Tacoma was referred for potential charges at about 1:54 p.m. Aug. 26, both for organized retail theft with special circumstances after shoplifting from multiple local businesses in the 100 block of West High Street while overcoming security devices with an accomplice, according to a Centralia Police Department news release.

• Eric Getz, 35, of California, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at around 10:49 p.m. Aug. 26 for third-degree assault after allegedly spitting in the face of a police officer during the course of an arrest for shoplifting from a local business in the 400 block of West Main Street. Getz was also referred for third-degree theft, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

 

Domestic violence

• A juvenile was arrested at around 7:11 a.m. Aug. 26 for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, after allegedly assaulting a member of his family in the 1200 block of Fieldcrest Avenue.

 

Theft

• A theft was reported at about 9:02 a.m. Aug. 26 in the 400 block of South Buckner Street.

• A local business in the 1000 block of South Yew Street reported shoplifting at about 11:31 a.m. Aug. 26.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• James E. Legge, 42, of Lacey, was arrested at about 2:42 p.m. Aug. 23 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for one count each of harassment, threat to kill, and attempted vehicular assault. Legge reportedly attempted to hit a Walmart employee in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana with his vehicle after being told he needed to leave.

 

Burglary

• A resident returned to their house in the 1500 block of Southwest Thompson Avenue at about 11:56 a.m. Aug. 21 to discover it was “ransacked,” according to the Chehalis Police Department.



• A building was broken into in the 200 block of Southwest Riverside Drive at about 1:17 p.m., Aug. 22.

 

Animal abuse

• A caller reported possible animal abuse in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street at about 3:54 p.m. Aug. 21. The animal did not have water and was standing in feces.

 

Eluding police

• A vehicle eluded police at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest State Avenue at about 1:14 p.m. Aug. 22.

 

Vehicle collision

• A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at about 2:33 p.m. Aug. 22.

• A resident struck a deer at the corner of Northeast Kresky Avenue and Exhibitor Road at about 8:33 a.m. Aug. 24. The deer was injured, but it was not confirmed if it died. There was damage to the caller’s car, but the caller was not injured.

 

Domestic violence

• Two males got into a physical dispute in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at about 9:28 p.m. Aug. 22.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 168 inmates, including 155 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 132 were reported male and 23 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
