Sirens: Man steals food at college while armed with machete; juveniles steal groceries; Lewis County Superior Court sentencings

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Burglary

• Damion V. Wilson, 24, of Centralia, was arrested in the 600 block of West Pear Street at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Jan. 29 for allegedly trespassing in the Centralia College Commons and stealing food while armed with a machete. He was charged Jan. 30 in Lewis County Superior Court with one count of first-degree burglary. Bail is set at $50,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 6.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of East Maple and North Gold streets at approximately 9 a.m. on Jan. 29.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Yew and West Walnut streets just after 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 29.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Tower Avenue and Jackson Street just after 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 29.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly subject was reported at a residence in the 1500 block of Lum Road just before 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 29. He was arrested and transferred to Department of Corrections custody for violating his conditions of release.

 

Drug violation

• A 39-year-old Centralia man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and for possession of meth at the intersection of South Iron and West Main streets just before 6:50 p.m. on Jan. 29.

 

Malicious mischief

• First-degree malicious mischief to a structure in the 1900 block of South Gold Street reported at 3 p.m. on Jan. 30 is under investigation.

 

Theft

• Donuts were reported stolen from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 5:25 p.m. on Jan. 30.

• Two juvenile males reportedly stole groceries from the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 11:20 p.m. on Jan. 30.

 



Assault

• A juvenile was arrested for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, in the 500 block of Jefferson Street just after 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Sentencings

• Rory Maddox Jr., 43, of Winlock, was sentenced Jan. 29, to six months in prison, with an additional six months suspended for two years, after he pleaded guilty Jan. 24 to one count each of second-degree assault and harassment. He received credit for 116 days of jail time already served. He is required to undergo domestic violence and substance use disorder evaluations and to complete all recommended treatment. A 10-year no-contact order protecting the victim is in place.

• Tyree M. Garrett Jr., 22, pleaded guilty Jan. 29 to one count of possession of a controlled substance while in a county or local correctional facility and was sentenced to zero days in prison, with no fines or fees imposed.

• Thomas Michael McPhillips, 55, of Seattle, was sentenced Jan. 29 to 60 months in prison after a jury convicted him Jan. 7 of one count each of first-degree criminal impersonation, third-degree malicious mischief, third-degree theft and second-degree burglary.

 

Attorney change

• Emily Norene Baker, 29, had a change of plea hearing scheduled for Jan. 29, but instead changed defense attorneys and is scheduled for trial the week of Feb. 17.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Wednesday morning and Friday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 41 illness-related calls, 12 injury-related calls, 10 fire-related calls, four non-emergency service calls, seven vehicle accidents, one Lifeline medical alert, one medical helicopter request, one report of a death, one overdose and three other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 137 inmates, including 124 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 96 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 18 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, seven booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tulalip Tribe and two booked by the Lummi Nation.
