Sirens: Man flees on ATV, later reports it stolen; pallets dumped at business; credit card, bank fraud reported

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Preliminary appearances

• Robert J. Day, 48, Randle, made a preliminary appearance June 15 for one count of attempting to elude a police vehicle after he allegedly fled from a sheriff’s deputy while riding an all-terrain vehicle with no license plate. According to court documents, Day later reported that his ATV had been stolen. The deputy arrested Day at his home. A judge released Day on a $5,000 unsecured bond and scheduled an arraignment for June 25.

• Brian L. Schmidt, 58, Centralia, made a preliminary appearance June 15 for two counts of third-degree assault against healthcare workers at Cascade Community Health. A judge set bail at $50,000 cash or bond and ordered that Schmidt be seen by a designated crisis responder prior to his release from jail. The judge also ordered a competency evaluation.

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Accidents

• A two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1800 block of Cooks Hill Road at about 8:56 a.m. June 15.

• A two-vehicle collision was reported near the corner of West Main Street and North Iron Street at about 4:50 p.m. June 15.

• A two-vehicle collision was reported near the corner of East Main Street and North Tower Avenue at about 2:51 p.m. June 16.

Assault

• A male juvenile was referred to Lewis County Juvenile Court for fourth-degree assault after allegedly assaulting another juvenile near the corner of B Street and East Sixth Street at about 9:34 p.m. June 15.

• A juvenile male was arrested and booked into Lewis County Juvenile Detention for fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) after allegedly assaulting a family/household member in the 1000 block of Washington Avenue at about 9:58 p.m. June 15.

• An assault was reported at a local business in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 5:26 p.m. June 16. The case is under investigation.

Criminal trespass

• Candice Aho, 36, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for alleged second-degree criminal trespass in the 100 block of East Cherry Street at about 12:43 a.m. June 16.

• Gregory M. Krueger, 49, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for alleged trespassing in the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue at about 2:16 a.m. June 17.

Fraud



• Bank fraud was reported in the 3500 block of Fords Prairie Avenue at about 12:13 p.m. June 15. The case is under investigation.

• Credit card fraud was reported in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue at about 3:32 p.m. June 16. The case is under investigation.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run collision was reported in the 1800 block of Cooks Hill Road at about 3:56 p.m. June 15. The case is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run collision was reported in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 12:54 p.m. June 16. The case is under investigation.

Littering

• A large number of shipping pallets were reportedly dumped into a business’s dumpster sometime overnight in the 1300 block of Lum Road. The incident was reported at about 8:47 a.m. June 15. The case is under investigation.

Vehicle theft

•  A vehicle theft was reported in the 300 block of West Plum Street at about 10:40 a.m. June 16. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Chehalis Police Department has not yet released its most recent call reports. Look for updated information in an upcoming edition of The Chronicle and at chronline.com when the reports are made available.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of June 17, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 150 inmates, including 137 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 115 were reported male and 22 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of June 17, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 15 inmates. Of those, four were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis, one was from McCleary and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one each from the Quileute Nation, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, the Skokomish Tribe and the Chehalis Tribal Court.
