Sirens: Man arrested for alleged hammer attack; Counterfeit $100 bills used at store; Seminary Hill campers told to move along

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Robbery

  Officers responded to the 1400 block of Windsor Avenue just after 7:25 a.m. on March 1 for a report “of a woman getting attacked with a hammer and her money stolen by a roommate.” The roommate, Brian L. Yost, 45, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for domestic violence counts of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. A preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court was scheduled for 4 p.m. on March 4. “Detectives are still investigating this incident and a second suspect is being sought,” the Centralia Police Department stated in a news release.

 

Assault

• A 20-year-old Centralia man was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for fourth-degree assault and obstructing a law enforcement officer just before 5:30 p.m. on March 1, after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile in the 100 block of South Silver Street and ran from a police officer.

• A 46-year-old Orting woman was arrested in the 700 block of North Tower Avenue just after 9:25 p.m. on March 1 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for fourth-degree assault.

 

Theft

• A 1993 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at 11 a.m. on March 1. The front half of the vehicle is silver and the back half is white.

• Just after 9:05 p.m. on March 1, a woman reported she lost her purse in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue and when she found it, money was missing.

• A theft was reported at a clothing outlet in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 3:20 p.m. on March 2. Officers located the suspect and recovered over $500 of stolen clothing. The suspect, 40, of Tacoma, was cited for third-degree theft.

• An unidentified male suspect stole over $1,000 of clothing from an outlet in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 4 p.m. on March 2. He was last seen wearing “all white and a white face mask.”

• Two counterfeit $100 bills were used at a grocery store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 12:05 p.m. on March 3. The case is under investigation.

• A light blue 1990 Ford Ranger with the Washington license plate D00782B was reported stolen from the 900 block of L Street just after 2:50 p.m. on March 3.

 

Criminal trespass

• Two 19-year-olds were cited for trespassing at a library in the 100 block of South Silver Street just after 12:25 p.m. on March 1. One of the subjects was arrested on outstanding warrants.

• Four homeless people from Randle, Onalaska, Chehalis and Centralia were reportedly camping in the Seminary Hill Natural Area at 6:10 p.m. on March 3.  Officers advised the campers of the city’s camping ordinance and provided them with available local resources. One of the subjects was issued a court summons for an outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrant.

• A homeless woman from New York was sleeping on the sidewalk in front of a business’ entrance in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue just before 1:50 a.m. on March 4. The officer provided the female with local resource information, to include the cold weather shelter, and gave her a warning for camping.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A minor, non-injury collision was reported in the 300 block of South Pearl Street just after 3:05 p.m. on March 1.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue at 8:10 p.m. on March 1.

• A vehicle lost control and damaged several mailboxes and broke a power pole in the 500 block of South Street at 10:30 p.m. on March 1. No injuries were reported. The driver, a 34-year-old Centralia woman, was cited for driving with a suspended license.

• A minor collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl Street and Reynolds Avenue just after 1:50 p.m. on March 2.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1100 block of Johnson Road just after 3 p.m. on March 2.

• A non-injury, single-vehicle collision was reported in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street at 6:45 a.m. on March 4.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Johnson Road at 7:20 a.m. on March 4.

• Injuries were reported following a single-vehicle collision in the 100 block of Chestnut Street just after 7:45 a.m. on March 4. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information on who was injured or the extent of their injuries.

 

DUI

• A 44-year-old Centralia woman was arrested in the 100 block of North Railroad Avenue just before 6:20 p.m. on March 2 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI after she crashed her car into multiple vehicles behind a business.

• Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Interstate 5 and Harrison Avenue just before 11:15 p.m. on March 2 for the report of “an erratic vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed towards the downtown area.” The vehicle was located on South Pearl Street. The driver, a 25-year-old Belfair man, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

 

Burglary

• An “unwanted subject” entered someone else’s residence in the 900 block of L Street at 3:20 a.m. on March 3. The subject left before officers arrived. The case is under investigation.

 

Dispute

• A “family dispute” was reported in the 1000 block of H Street at 11:15 a.m. on March 3. Officers determined no crime had occurred and gave both parties domestic violence-related resources.

• A “family dispute” was reported in the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road just after 4:50 p.m. on March 3. Officers determined no crime had occurred and gave both parties domestic violence-related resources.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A male subject who was sleeping at the employee entrance of a business in the 1200 block of Northwest State Avenue at 7:45 a.m. on March 1 was trespassed from the business.

• A guest at a hotel in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue who had “been there a week and will not leave” was trespassed from the hotel at approximately 1:25 p.m. on March 1.

• A caller asked that four homeless men who were “smoking pot” in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard just after 6:20 p.m. on March 1 be moved along.



• A male subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:40 p.m. on March 3.

• A subject reportedly trespassed on a residential porch in the 200 block of Southwest James Street at 12:40 a.m. on March 4.

 

Burglary

• A “burglary/theft” reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at 12:20 p.m. on March 1 is under investigation.

• A male subject was arrested for second-degree burglary in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:05 p.m. on March 1.

 

Voter fraud

• A subject in the lobby of the Lewis County Auditor’s Office reported possible voter fraud just after 2 p.m. on March 1. The subject hung up on a Chehalis Police officer twice before answering on the third try to advise the officer “this wasn’t a call for an officer because it involved ‘state crimes.’” The subject “would not elaborate and stated he needed to talk to a ‘sheriff,’ not me,” the officer wrote in the call response log.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 3:35 p.m. on March 1.

• A hit-and-run to a pole in the 10 block of Northeast Boistfort Street was reported just after 5:40 a.m. on March 2.

 

Drug violation

  A subject was cited for possession of meth in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street at 3:55 p.m. on March 1.

 

Assault

• A custodial assault was reported at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street at 4:25 p.m. on March 1.

• At approximately 10:40 p.m. on March 1, a caller reported seeing a male subject punch a woman in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A vehicle was reportedly “revving its engine over and over again” in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 2:20 a.m. on March 2.

 

Fraud

• Possible fraud to an account was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:15 a.m. on March 2

 

Theft

• At 9:15 a.m. on March 2, a caller reported she got $100 cash from a machine inside a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior, but left it in the machine. The store reportedly has surveillance footage of another subject taking the money from the machine.

• An attempted vehicle theft was reported in the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at approximately 7:15 p.m. on March 3. The reporting party said she saw three suspects attempting to enter the vehicle and so “she came out and scared them off with a gun.”

 

Juvenile problem

• A juvenile reportedly ran away from the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street at 7:10 p.m. on March 2.

 

Animal abuse/neglect

• Possible animal abuse/neglect was reported in the 600 block of Southwest William Avenue just before 2:20 a.m. on March 3. The reporting party stated they heard a “dog crying” from a yard behind a house.

 

Vicious dog

• A vicious dog reported in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just before 8:45 a.m. on March 3 is under investigation. 

 

Disturbance/dispute

• A “disturbance/dispute” reported in the 1600 block of Southwest Gails Avenue at approximately 3:35 a.m. on March 4 is under investigation.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 169 inmates, including 156 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 130 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
