CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Malicious mischief

• At 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 10, officers were notified that copper wires had been dug up and stolen from a construction site at the intersection of Fair Street and Kresky Avenue.

 

Drug violations

• A 29-year-old Centralia man had suspected meth and drug paraphernalia when he was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant in the 800 block of South Gold Street at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 10.

• A 24-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for a drug violation after officers found her “slumped over” in a vehicle in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 11 and found narcotics in her possession.

 

Assault

• A 26-year-old Edgewood woman was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and for third-degree assault after she allegedly assaulted staff at a hospital in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road just after 3:10 p.m. on Jan. 11.

 

Theft

• Tracy A, Callahan, 35, of North Dakota, Marlon A. Brown, 45, of Federal Way, and Tyler J. Doney, 34, of Federal Way, were arrested for alleged organized retail theft in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 5:25 p.m. on Jan. 11 after officers responded to a report that clothing had been stolen from an outlet store. Officers reportedly located numerous stolen items and tools used to defeat security devices in the suspects’ possession. The suspects had preliminary hearings on felony charges in Lewis County Superior Court scheduled for 4 p.m. on Jan. 13.

• Mail was reported stolen from the 1100 block of West Plum Street just before 10:35 p.m. on Jan. 11.

 

DUI

• A 31-year-old Rochester man was arrested for DUI in the 1500 block of North Pearl Street just before 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 12.

• A 33-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for DUI in the 1300 block of North Pearl Street just after 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 12.

 

Criminal trespass

• Two homeless people were trespassed from a city park in the 100 block of South Pearl Street at 7:15 a.m. on Jan. 12 after they were found “sleeping in the park and violating Centralia municipal code.”

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Disputes

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 10.

• A “disturbance/dispute” reported in the 400 block of North Ash Street just after 10:55 a.m. on Jan. 12 is under investigation.

• A physical dispute between a man and a woman was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Sixth Street just after 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 12.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:55 a.m. on Jan. 10.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest State Avenue just after 4:05 p.m. on Jan. 10.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 10.

• A vehicle struck a tree in a parking lot in the 700 block of Northwest Arkansas Way just after 8:25 p.m. on Jan. 10. No injuries were reported. The driver told officers he reported the incident “to prove it was an accident (and) he is not drunk.”

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and southbound Interstate 5 at 5 p.m. on Jan. 11.



 

Theft

• A debit card was reported stolen from a property in the 10 block of Southwest 17th Street just after 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 10. No signs of forced entry were reported and nothing else from the residence was reported missing.

 

Criminal trespass

• A subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 500 block of Northwest Sitka Street at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.

• Two people were reportedly sleeping outside a building in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 10:40 p.m. on Jan. 11.

Suspicious circumstances

• A man who was “ranting (about) stuff) and saying “he is The Punisher and the world is evil” reportedly went into a gas station in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 12. He reportedly told a gas station employee he was driving himself to a hotel.

• A citizen at the intersection of Northeast Franklin Avenue and Northeast Division Street reported someone was knocking on her van and running around on her property at 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 12.

This is a non-comprehensive list of notable developments with Lewis County Superior Court cases The Chronicle has previously reported on. Change of plea

• Beau Francis Bruneau, 39, of Chehalis, entered an Alford plea on Wednesday, Jan. 8, to one count of second-degree rape. In his plea agreement, Bruneau wrote, “I do not clearly remember the events but believe I would be convicted at trial and want to take advantage of the state’s offer.” A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12. The prosecution intends to recommend an 84-month jail sentence, according to court documents. The standard sentencing range is 78 to 102 months, with a maximum of life in prison.

 

Sentencings

• Eric Reuben King, 40, of Onalaska, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault on Wednesday, Jan. 8, and was sentenced to six months in jail with credit for 30 days served. King must also undergo a substance use evaluation and complete all recommended treatment. A 10-year no-contact order protecting the victim is in place.

• Jesse Ray Clark, 46, of Olympia, pleaded guilty Wednesday, Jan. 8, to one count of fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to 364 days in prison with 332 days suspended for 24 months. He will receive 32 days of credit for time served.

• Jody Lee Roberts, 46, of Puyallup, was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 8, to 12 months and one day in prison for one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He entered a guilty plea on Nov. 26. Roberts is also required to undergo a substance use evaluation and complete all recommended treatment.

 

Trial outcome

• Daniel Travis Kaufman, 41, of Olympia, was convicted by the court in a non-jury bench trial on Thursday, Jan. 9, of one count of second-degree assault of a child. The charge is a class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Jan. 31.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 48 illness-related calls, 15 injury-related calls, 11 fire-related calls, nine non-emergency service calls, one vehicle accident, four Lifeline medical alerts, two ambulance requests, one public works call, one suicide-related call and three other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 171 inmates, including 158 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 121 were reported male and 37 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 16 inmates, including seven booked by the Centralia Police Department, five booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tulalip Tribe, one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court and two booked by the Lummi Nation.
