Sirens: K9 Hector locates meth; teen drives past officer at 100 mph; man found sleeping in vehicle while intoxicated

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Cameron Whalen, 37, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for an outstanding warrant and alleged possession of a controlled substance and use or delivery of drug paraphernalia in the 300 block of East Summa Street at about 3:23 p.m. May 15.

• Fredy A. Gamez Rodriguez, 28, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, in the 1100 block of Woodland Avenue at about 7:52 a.m. May 17.

• Shantina R. Grace, 41, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged drug possession in the 800 block of Marion Street at about 1:05 p.m. May 17. According to police, a Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy requested K9 Hector for an “exterior sniff” of a vehicle he had pulled over. During the sniff, K9 Hector alerted to the odor of possible narcotics inside the vehicle. Upon execution of a search warrant, officers allegedly found dealer amounts of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

Accidents

• A hit-and-run of an unattended parked vehicle was reported in the 100 block of West Second Street at about 4:47 p.m. May 15. No suspect information was available at the time.

Criminal trespass

• Steven Luurs, 46, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree criminal trespass in the 200 block of East Cherry Street at about 6:47 p.m. May 15.

• Adrienne Chester, 33, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged first-degree criminal trespass in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 2:47 a.m. May 16.

• A juvenile was referred to Lewis County Juvenile Court for second-degree criminal trespass and obstructing a law enforcement officer after allegedly entering and remaining unlawfully on secured city infrastructure and then fleeing from law enforcement on foot near the 1000 block of Seminary Hill Road at about 7:22 p.m. May 16.

• James Driscoll, 18, Centralia, was referred to the Centralia Municipal Court for second-degree criminal trespass and obstructing a law enforcement officer after allegedly entering and remaining unlawfully on secured city infrastructure and then fleeing from law enforcement on foot near the 1000 block of Seminary Hill Road at about 8:08 p.m. May 16.

• A transient male was issued a trespass warning after he was found sleeping in a garage on a vacant property in the 1300 block of Eckerson Road at about 7:53 a.m. May 17.

Family disturbance

• At about 8:50 a.m. May 16, officers responded to a reported domestic dispute that occurred sometime during the previous night in the 1600 block of Eshom Road. After interviewing all involved parties, officers could not establish probable cause to make an arrest.

Forgery

• Officers received a report of forgery occurring in the 1400 block of Logan Street at about 6:27 p.m. May 16. The case is under active investigation.

Harassment

• A verbal dispute was reported on one of the local transit buses near the corner of South Green Street and East Main Street at about 2:44 p.m. May 16. The case is under investigation.

• Officers contacted a female who reported her ex-boyfriend was banging on her door and harassing her in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at about 7:20 a.m. May 17. After investigating, officers determined no crime had been committed.

Juvenile problem

• Patrol officers received a report of a juvenile who had run from their home near the 900 block of K Street at about 6:05 p.m. May 16. Officers responded to the area and located the juvenile.



Malicious mischief

• At about 9:50 a.m. May 17, officers took a report of vehicles doing “donuts” in a grassy area of a local business in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street. The vehicles reportedly caused the damage sometime within the previous 48 hours. The case is under investigation.

Physical control of vehicle while under the influence

• Ruben Galvan Venegas, 40, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor in the 300 block of Lowe Street at about 1:40 a.m. May 18. According to police, Venegas was found sleeping in a motor vehicle while allegedly intoxicated. Upon contact by law enforcement, Venegas allegedly attempted to start the vehicle.

Reckless driving

• Alejandro Gonzalez, 19, Chehalis, was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving after allegedly accelerating past a Centralia police officer at speeds over 100 mph on Interstate 5 near the Exit 82 southbound off-ramp at about 1:42 a.m. May 17.

Theft

• A bicycle was reported stolen in the 200 block of South Pearl Street at about 7 p.m. May 15. No suspect information was available at the time.

• A bicycle and bike trailer were reported stolen in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street at about 12:45 a.m. May 16. No suspect information was available at the time.

• Theft of over $1,000 worth of merchandise was reported stolen from a local business in the 100 block of West High Street just before 2 p.m. May 17. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Aaron M. Jernigan Parish was arrested near the corner of Southwest Chehalis Avenue and Southwest James Street at about 5:44 p.m. May 14 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly failing to appear in court for a citation related to urinating/defecating in public. Jernigan Parish was also referred for allegedly possessing medication not prescribed to him.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of May 18, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 140 inmates, including 126 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 105 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and three were reported female.

• As of May 18, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 21 inmates. Of those, nine were from Centralia and 10 were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one each from the Quileute Nation and the Shoalwater Bay Tribe.
