Sirens: Juvenile assaults teacher; woman sprayed with bear mace; medics revive person after overdose; Lewis County Superior Court proceedings

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Recovered property

• A vehicle reported stolen out of Oregon was recovered in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 9:25 a.m. on March 10.

 

Assault

• A juvenile was referred on charges after they reportedly assaulted a teacher at Centralia Middle School in the 900 block of Johnson Road just after 9:45 a.m. on March 10.

• A woman reported being sprayed with “bear mace” by a male in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street at 8:20 p.m. on March 11. The case is under investigation.

 

Theft

• Officers are investigating a theft complaint reported in the 1000 block of Ellsbury Street just after 12:15 p.m. on March 10 where the victim was scammed into taking money out of their bank account with the intention of sending it to an unknown person.

• Possible identity theft reported in the 100 block of West Maple Street at 4 p.m. on March 10 is under investigation.

• A 30-year-old Centralia man was arrested for stealing food from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 6:50 p.m. on March 10.

 

Drug violation

• A 33-year-old Chehalis man was arrested on several outstanding warrants and for possession with intent to deliver narcotics after packaging materials, a scale and cash were found on his person in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at approximately 8:10 a.m. on March 11.

• Officers and a K-9 responded to a report of narcotics use inside a vehicle parked at a business in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue just before 10:30 a.m. on March 11. The K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, and the vehicle was seized for the application of a search warrant.

 

Overdose

• Officers assisted the Riverside Fire Authority in responding to a reported drug overdose in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 3 p.m. on March 11. Officers conducted CPR and administered Narcan while waiting for Riverside Fire Authority medics to arrive. Medics took over lifesaving measures when they arrived and successfully revived the subject, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a urinal in a public bathroom in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue was reported at approximately 7 p.m. on March 11. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly woman was reportedly “tweaking out” and saying she “has a knife and (is) going to get people” in the 10 block of Northeast Cascade Avenue just before 12:40 p.m. on March 10.

 



Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Cascade Avenue and West Main Street just before 4:15 p.m. on March 10.

 

Harassment

• A road rage incident involving one driver verbally threatening to kill another driver in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard was reported just before 5:10 p.m. on March 10.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A citizen reported hearing a possible struggle and “unwanted sexual noises” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just before 8:05 p.m. on March 10.

 

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

This is a non-comprehensive list of notable developments with Lewis County Superior Court cases The Chronicle has previously reported on. Sentencings

• David William F. Stitz, 19, of Glenoma, was found guilty by a jury on Feb. 26 of two counts of harassment, two counts of reckless driving and two counts of display of weapons capable of producing harm. He was sentenced March 7 to 364 days in jail with 274 days suspended and credit for three days served, for a total of 180 days left to serve. No-contact orders protecting the victims are in place.

• Wilma June Kaplan, 77, of Packwood, pleaded guilty March 7 to one count each of repeater voting and making a false statement to a public servant. Her sentence was a $500 fine. No jail time was ordered.

• Garrett R. Severson, 23, of Idaho, pleaded guilty March 7 to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to eight months in jail with credit for 63 days served.

• Lana Dawn Keffer, 42, of Onalaska, pleaded guilty March 11 to one count of third-degree assault, domestic violence, and was sentenced to three months in jail with credit for 191 days served. She was released from the Lewis County Jail at approximately 7:38 p.m. on March 11. A five-year no-contact order protecting the victim is in place.

Change of plea

• Garrett Christian Cox, 19, of Winlock, pleaded guilty March 7 to one count each of residential burglary, second-degree malicious mischief and third-degree theft. Sentencing is scheduled for April 16.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 47 illness-related calls, 13 injury-related calls, nine fire-related calls, one overdose, three vehicle accidents, two Lifeline medical alerts, one suicide-related call, one medical helicopter request and one other call.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 149 inmates, including 138 in the general population and 11 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 109 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, nine were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 17 inmates, including six booked by the Centralia Police Department, three booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tulalip Tribe, one booked by the Skokomish Tribe, two booked by the La Push Quileute Nation, two booked by the Lummi Nation and two booked by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
