Sirens: Instruments Stolen From School; Officer Helps Elderly Motorist Change Tire; Morton and Mossyrock Reports

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A camp shovel and vehicle registration were reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 100 block of Virginia Drive just before 8:35 a.m. on Oct. 24.

• A Chehalis woman was arrested in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 24 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree theft after she allegedly pushed a cart containing $800 worth of groceries out of a store without paying for them.

• A white 1998 Subaru Legacy with the license plate CEV4233 was reported stolen from the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue just before 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 24.

• A small battery charger was reported stolen from the 100 block of South Silver Street just after 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 25.

 

Instruments Stolen From School 

• Just after 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 25, three band instruments — a flute, a clarinet and a trumpet — were reported stolen from a school satellite classroom in the 800 block of Field Avenue by an unknown suspect over the weekend. Officers responded to an alarm over the weekend and located an unlocked door. The building was searched at the time, but it was unknown if anything was missing until the Oct. 25 report, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 110 block of Tower Avenue just after 12:50 p.m. on Oct. 25. One vehicle reportedly tried to make a left turn and collided with another vehicle that had the right of way. The at-fault driver was issued an infraction.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue just after 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 25.

• Officers responded to a non-injury, two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Third Street and North Washington Avenue just before 5:25 p.m. on Oct. 25. One of the involved parties was cited for failing to register her vehicle and was issued infractions related to the collision.

 

Public Assist

• Just after 1:25 p.m. on Oct. 25, an officer helped an elderly motorist change a vehicle tire after she punctured it against a median at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and West Bridge Street.

Trespassed From Property

• A man was trespassed from a business in the 100 block of Eckerson Road just before 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 25.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• Just before 1:25 p.m. on Oct. 24, a caller reported she set her $200 pair of sunglasses down in the electronics department of a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and moved away, but when she went back the sunglasses were gone.

• A theft reported in the 1800 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Oct. 25 is under investigation.

 

Bad Check

• Just after 2:10 p.m. on Oct. 24, a caller in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported a bad check was passed through the bank.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 24.

• A non-injury vehicle accident reported at the intersection of Northeast Kresky Avenue and Northeast Median Street at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 24 is under investigation.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in a parking lot in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 8:20 p.m. on Oct. 24.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at noon on Oct. 25.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.

 

Assault



• Just after 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 24, an attempted assault that occurred on Oct. 15 in the 300 block of West Main Street was reported.

• A woman who was “having an issue about pumpkins and (was) yelling about returning pumpkins” at a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Oct. 24 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged third-degree assault of a police officer. She was also trespassed from the business for life.

Dispute

• A verbal dispute was reported at the intersection of Northwest State Avenue and Northwest Middle Street at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 25.

 

 

MORTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Morton Incidents

• An officer was dispatched to Morton Country Market in the 400 block of Second Street at 3:55 p.m. on Oct. 16 for a possible DUI. The car was gone when the officer arrived and a witness reported it headed eastbound. Dispatch advised Washington State Patrol.

• An officer was dispatched to the Morton Country Market in the 400 block of Second Street just after 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 16 for a non-injury vehicle accident.

• An officer was dispatched to a disorderly situation at the corner of Seventh Street and Temple Avenue just before 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 17. The conflict turned out to be a misunderstanding.

• While patrolling in the 300 and 600 blocks of Adams Avenue just after 6:55 p.m. on Oct. 17, an officer observed some cars parked the wrong way. The officer had the owners turn their cars around for safety.

• An officer pulled over a Toyota that was driving recklessly on Second Street just after 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 17. The driver was cited for second-degree negligent driving.

• An officer was dispatched to a civil dispute in the 200 block of Main Avenue just before 4:10 p.m. on Oct. 18.

• While patrolling, an officer observed a vehicle driving with the front passenger light out just after 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 19. The officer gave the driver a warning.

• While patrolling, an officer observed a vehicle driving with no lights on just after 9 p.m. on Oct. 19. The officer gave the driver a warning.

• An officer pulled over a vehicle going 35 mph in a 25 mph zone just after 10:25 a.m. on Oct. 21. The officer gave the driver a warning.

• People with headlamps were reported at Gust Backstrom Park in the 700 block of Main Avenue just before 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 22. The reporting party advised it was “too early for fishing.”

• Disorderly conduct was reported at Gust Backstrom Park in the 700 block of Main Avenue just before 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 22.

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Third Street at 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 23 for a noise complaint.

• While patrolling near the 100 block of Seventh Street just after 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer noticed a vehicle with expired tabs. The officer gave the owner a verbal warning that they aren’t allowed to park a car with expired tabs on a city street.

• While patrolling just before 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer observed a vehicle fail to stop at the intersection of Second Street and Adams Avenue. The officer gave the driver a verbal warning.

• While patrolling just before 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer observed a vehicle going 35 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer gave the driver a verbal warning.

 

Mossyrock Incidents

• On Oct. 17, a caller advised officers about a female on the corner of Williams and Hope streets “who didn’t want to go home.”

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Mossyrock Avenue just before 6:55 a.m. on Oct. 21 regarding a vehicle prowl. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to Lemon Tree Cafe and Espresso in the 100 block of East State Street at 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 21 regarding a trespassing complaint.

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Mossyrock Road West just after 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 for a report of cats being taken. The officer was unable to contact the person who supposedly took the cats. 

• Just after 4:20 p.m. on Oct. 23, an officer returned a call to a person who reported someone was in their home while they were gone. Nothing was reported missing.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 173 inmates, including 159 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 133 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.
