Sirens: Fires Started Near Tower Avenue; Arrest for Pointing Firearm; Suspect Later Caught After Pursuit Terminated

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Eluding Police

• A 51-year-old Rochester man was referred for charges shortly after he was stopped for a traffic violation and then fled in his vehicle when he was told to exit his car. The pursuit was terminated and the suspect was later arrested in Thurston County. The call came in shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Vehicle Prowl

• A residential garage door opener was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of Lakeshore Drive shortly before 1:55 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Accidents

• A two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Mellen Street and Noble Lane shortly before 8:10 p.m. on Friday.

• A two-vehicle collision was reported in the 300 block of North Pearl Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

 

Arrests

• A 36-year-old Shelton man was arrested for violating a court ordered protection order shortly before 12:25 a.m. on Sunday. During the incident, a 35-year-old Shelton woman was arrested for obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest after interfering with the man’s arrest. The woman reportedly became combative after being told she was under arrest.

• Charles E. Shipp, 58, of Toledo was arrested for reckless burning, unlawful carrying or handling, and resisting arrest after reportedly starting three small fires near a building in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. Shipp reportedly pulled a knife on fire department personnel when they arrived. He reportedly became “combative and uncooperative with officers” as he was being arrested.

• Eliot C. Widmer, 21, of Centralia, was arrested after reportedly pointing a firearm at another individual and threatening to harm them in the 1000 block of North Tower Avenue shortly before 5:10 a.m. on Sunday. Widmer fled from officers in a vehicle and was ultimately apprehended. He received an additional charge of eluding a police vehicle, which was added to his recommended charges.

Theft

• A bicycle was reported stolen in the 300 block of Lowe Street shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday. The case is under investigation.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Counterfeit Money

• A counterfeit $100 bill was left on a table at a restaurant in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue shortly after 8:20 p.m. on Saturday. No arrests were made.

 

Child Found

• A person in the 1900 block of South Market Boulevard called to report her 6-year-old daughter went missing from the backyard at around 3:40 p.m. on Friday.  The child was found in the bushes of a yard as an officer pulled up to the residence.

 

Suspicious Circumstances

• A caller in the 1400 block of Southwest Mills Avenue reported a person came to their door in reference to a “sewer issue she reported” at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The caller reported she didn’t make a report and noted she called the city, who said they didn’t send someone out to a call.

• A caller reported a man was hitting another man with a stick near Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue at around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. The responding officer spoke to multiple individuals who did not want to report a crime. No arrests were made.

 

Disorderly Conduct

• Employees of a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue called at around 4:40 p.m. on Friday to report a man was being rude to them because he wanted free food. The caller reported it is an ongoing issue and wanted the person trespassed. No arrests were made.



• A loud dispute was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

 

Theft

• A third-degree theft was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue shortly after 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday. There were no arrests.

• A person called at around 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday to report he thought a student stole his wife’s cell phone from her classroom in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street. The phone was tracked to W.F. West High School but it was unknown what vehicle it was in. The cell phone was later found with another teacher. The report indicated it was “just a mix up.” No arrests were made.

• A tablet was reported stolen by a man and a woman in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue shortly before 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday. No arrests were made.

• A person reportedly shoplifted a cart full of “random tools” in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The caller followed the person and located the cart in a parking lot. The reporting party grabbed what he could from the cart and the person who was accused of shoplifting disappeared into the field. No arrests were made.

• A man reportedly grabbed “a handful of stuff” at the register and left a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at around 7:20 a.m. on Saturday. No arrests were made.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A vehicle accident with damage was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue shortly before 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday. No arrests were made.

• A person reportedly backed their vehicle into another car in the 300 block of West Main Street shortly after 2:10 p.m. on Thursday. No arrests were made.

• A two-vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Northwest State Avenue and Northwest West Street shortly after 3:10 p.m. on Thursday. No arrests were made.

• A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday. No arrests were made.

• A two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue shortly before 3:35 p.m. on Saturday. No arrests were made.

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday. The person gave the reporting party expired insurance information before driving away. No arrests were made.

 

Criminal Trespass

• A caller reported a man was walking around a building in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday filming and stated he wanted the person trespassed from the property.  The reporting party later called back to ask the police department to disregard the call because the man in question lives at the building.

• A person was reportedly trespassing on the tracks located near North National Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. No arrests were made.

• A shirtless person wearing a bathrobe and a burlap sack with eye holes cut out of it was reported in traffic in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard shortly after 4:35 p.m. on Sunday. No arrests were made.

 

Animal Negligence

• A caller reported a possible animal abuse case near Southwest Seventh Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue at around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. The caller reported a dog had been crying in the backyard of a house since Wednesday. No arrests were made.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 183 inmates, including 170 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 142 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
