Sirens: Elderly woman scammed out of $1,420; three Centralia arrests for DUI; police pursuit continues to Thurston County

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• German Rosas-Arenas, 33, Tacoma, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged eluding in the 200 block of South Tower Avenue at about 8:35 p.m. April 10. Rosas-Arenas was also referred for charges of driving under the influence. Prior to Rosas-Arenas’ arrest, officers attempted to stop a vehicle driving erratically with no plates and then engaged in a pursuit due to suspicion of DUI and the possibility that the car had been stolen. Officers reportedly chased Rosas-Arenas north on Interstate 5 to Lacey. After Rosas-Arenas exited in Lacey, Centralia officers discontinued the pursuit. Washington State Patrol tracked Rosas-Arenas using their airplane and ultimately followed him to his apartment, where the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant and placed Rosas-Arenas into custody.

• Michael Martinez-Reyes, 29, Mountlake Terra, was arrested in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at about 4:34 a.m. April 12 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged harassment with threats to kill. An additional charge of interference with a health care facility was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office. Martinez-Reyes allegedly threatened nurses and refused to leave the health care facility when he was discharged, according to police.

Accidents

• A two-vehicle, non-blocking collision with no reported injuries occurred in the 4000 block of Galvin Road at about 12:20 p.m. April 10.

• A two-vehicle collision was reported near the corner of Harrison Avenue and West High Street at about 2:50 p.m. April 11.

Assault

• Caliope S. Dicus, 41, Centralia, was arrested after an alleged physical altercation with her significant other in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue at about 3:04 p.m. April 11. Due to medical reasons, Dicus was not booked into the Lewis County Jail and was provided medical aid.

Criminal trespass

• A male was trespassed from a business in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at about 10:18 p.m. April 12 after reportedly causing a disturbance.

DUI

• Odelinn A. Nino Villanueva, 22, Centralia, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in the 600 block of South Gold Street at about 1:45 a.m. April 11.   

• Jesus M. Cardona Mendoza, 34, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a controlled substance near the corner of North Pearl Street and West Third Street at about 3:27 p.m. April 11.

• Alexander Pantoja Martinez, 23, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail after he caused a minor collision and was allegedly found to be driving under the influence of alcohol in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at about 12:09 a.m. April 13.

Possession of a controlled substance



• Dawson J. Harris, 30, Rochester, received a criminal citation for alleged unlawful possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue at about 12:34 a.m. April 12.

Scam

• An elderly female was scammed out of $1,420 after someone called her claiming to be a deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. According to police, the scammer ordered her to put money into a Bitcoin machine to avoid being arrested for a fictitious warrant. The report came from the 1000 block of Ellsbury Street at about 12:46 p.m. April 11.

• A report in the 300 block of East Pine Street at about 1:12 p.m. April 11 said that someone claiming to be a deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office had called a citizen demanding money for missing jury duty.

Theft

• A TV was reported stolen in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at about 4:13 p.m. April 10. The case is under investigation.

Traffic violation

• A juvenile was arrested and released for riding a gas-powered moped on the roadway in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue at about 4:54 p.m. April 10. A second moped fled the scene. Police said the juvenile was weaving in and out of traffic with a passenger on the back of the moped.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of April 13, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 160 inmates, including 146 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 117 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of April 13, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 18 inmates. Of those, 13 were from Centralia, three were from the Department of Corrections, one was from the Quileute Nation and one was from the Shoalwater Bay Tribe.
